It’s time for our last pre-season look at the betting odds of this year’s Strictly Come Dancing contestants, and what have we learnt in the process?
Well, we’ve mainly learnt that there are only two ways that we’re going to be able to get through an entire series of watching a bunch of D-list celebrities grinning and twirling like a roomful of drunk toddlers. One of the ways involves jabbing a screwdriver into our eyes over and over again, and the other involves betting on the winner. So that’s what we’ll do, and we recommend you do the same.
Here’s the last instalment of Strictly Come Dancing pre-season betting odds, with some help from Betfair.com…
Fiona Phillips – We rarely wake up before 4pm, so we’re not too
clued-up about breakfast television. But we know who Fiona Phillips is
- she presents GMTV at the crack of dawn every morning. If we were her
we’d be far too knackered to walk, let alone dance. But Fiona’s
obviously made of stronger stuff than us. She needs to be careful,
though – her partner is Brendan Cole, and he likes eloping with the
breakfast TV presenters. As far as winning goes, don’t hold your
breath. She hasn’t danced for 20 years. Current odds – 21/2
Will Thorp – Will apparently plays Woody in a TV show called
Casualty, which we hear is fairly popular. We know literally nothing
about him whatsoever – except that he has a scary intense face that we
can’t look directly at, and that he likes dancing to Sting and James Blunt. and that his odds are distinctly average. Current odds – 14/1
Bill Turnbull – Bill is a BBC newsreader, and rank outsider for this
series. And we’re not sure why – he sort of does a nice flourish in the
Strictly Come Dancing adverts which makes us think that he might be a
bit tasty on the dancefloor. And he’s in with Kaplinsky, who might be
able to give him some handy dancing hints. The dark horse of the
series. Current odds – 69/1
Strictly Come Dancing will be shown on BBC1 tomorrow evening. We’ll update
