The Sopranos and Reservoir Dogs actor Steve Buscemi is not the prettiest guy around. That doesn’t mean he should be killed off in nearly everything he’s in, but, really, how many times do you see Tom Cruise getting shot in the head and run over?
Work’s work though, and despite being stabbed, shafted, cracked, crunched and splattered over a dozen times on film and TV, Buscemi remains happy to be dead.
"I’m not drawn to roles where my characters die. I am drawn to good writing and good directors." he responded.
A great actor Steve Buscemi (DVDs). A weasel in various guises for every single part he’s ever taken, but that’s not to say it’s an easy gig.
Vince Vaughn tried to do the same thing in Gus Van Sant’s Psycho remake (DVDs) and came off like a mildly disaffected librarian.
Steve Buscemi is the master of playing an out-and-out shit, who more often than not deserves his grisly comeuppance.
"At least I have some pretty good screen time before my various demises."
He’s right. Buscemi’s role call is a sizeable collection of student favourites and a pertinent way to remember your angry youth.
Pulp Fiction, Things to Do in Denver When You’re Dead, Desperado and his self-directed Trees Lounge would form a nice pile next to anyone’s 28" plasma.
Catch the Buscemi the weasel next in Michael Bay’s The Island out in the UK on 15th August.
We don’t know if he plays Ewan McGregor’s friend or enemy, but chances are if he’s billed as "and Steve Buscemi" on the opening credits, he’s not going to make it, again.
