Spielberg Begins Filming Munich Olympic Biopic

Film_camera_1We’re not entirely certain about this, but Steven Spielberg could just be a workaholic. He’s hardly had time for a breather since waging war on the world, but it has been announced that filming has now begun on the director’s next flick.

Spielberg is to begin filming a biopic about the Munich Olympics. The film is an as-yet-untitled historical drama based around the tragic events in 1972 where eleven Israeli athletes were massacred by an extremist Palestinian faction known as Black September.

The Steven Spielberg (DVDs) film is set in the aftermath of the tragedy, and is to tell the
story of the Israeli agents assigned to track down and assassinate the
surviving Palestinians thought to have carried out the attack.

The script has been written by first-time feature writer Tony
Kushner
, scribe of the multi-award winning Broadway and TV drama Angels in
America
. The film stars Eric Bana as the leader of the crack team
assigned to the grim task of bringing those responsible to justice.
However, not one to shy away from the human psyche, Spielberg has
emphasised that the driving theme of the film will see how the mission
takes its toll on both the team and Bana’s character.

Filming has already begun in Malta, and you can view some exclusive photos over at www.di-ve.com,
if you so wish. The film also stars Daniel Craig, Geoffrey Rush,
Mathieu Kassovitz, Hanns Zischler and Ciaran Hinds. The films is due
for release December 23.
