Daniel Dae Kim Lost Arrested DUI HawaiiIn these times of constant doubt, people need their fragments of certainty to cling onto for support like never before, so thank heavens that a Lost cast-member is always on hand to drive around like a spazzy nitwit during filming each year.

This time, the lucky member of the Lost cast to be arrested for drink driving was Daniel Dae Kim, the Korean-born actor who plays Jin-Soo Kwon in the increasingly bewildering island drama. According to reports, Daniel Dae Kim was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving in Honolulu early yesterday morning, taken into custody and released after posting bail - the latest in a long line of Lost stars to have been caught allegedly driving around Hawaii like a pissed-up goon. In fact, by our estimations, Daniel Dae Kim's DUI arrest means that the only Lost cast-members not to have been arrested on similar charges so far are Walt, the man with the eye-patch and the nondescript creepy accent and four of the bees from episode six.

We can't wait for the new season of Lost. Honestly - and not just because all the flashbacks and flashforwards and diagonally-zigzagging flashes promise to become so complicated that most human brains will explode trying to merely comprehend them. No, the reason we can't wait for Lost is because it means we'll inevitably get presented with a never-ending stream of stories about the cast of Lost badly driving around Hawaii like they own the bloody place. It's happened before - like when Cynthia Watros and Michelle Rodriguez were arrested for drink driving, or when Mr Eko was arrested for driving without a license or when any other number of Lost stars were fined for various other traffic offences - and thanks to Daniel Dae Kim, it's happening now. The Associated Press reports:

Actor Daniel Dae Kim was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving early Thursday by Honolulu police — the fourth actor on ABC's "Lost" to run into trouble with the law while filming in Hawaii. Kim, who plays Korean tough guy Jin-Soo Kwon, was taken into custody before 3 a.m. local time and released after posting bail, police said. A telephone message left with Kim's publicist after regular business hours was not immediately returned.

But Daniel Dae Kim - who, incidentally, is the luckiest member of the Lost cast because all he's ever asked to do is scrunch up his face in confusion a lot and occasionally say English words like "boat" or "udders" - was always going to get arrested for DUI at some point. Not only has he worked on Lost, where a cast-member DUI conviction seems mandatory, but he was also in a couple of seasons of 24 - and we all know how much Kiefer likes a drinky-poo. In many ways, this DUI arrest is Daniel Dae Kim's destiny.

Not that Daniel Dae Kim shouldn't be incredibly worried, though - not only could this arrest see Daniel Dae Kim going to jail, but also he should be aware that the Lost producers are taking an increasingly dim view of these sorts of shenanigans. Let's look at the evidence - Cynthia Watros gets arrested and her character gets shot in the stomach. Michelle Rodriguez gets arrested and her character also gets shot. Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje gets arrested and a giant smoke monster picks up his character and smashes him against the side of a tree until he's dead. Daniel Dae Kim needs to watch his back, that's for sure.

But, on the other hand, this happens to everyone. The stars of Lost might try occasionally try other things to ward off the curse of the Hawaii DUI arrest - like burning their houses down or embarking on brief-yet-doomed marriages or getting held up at gunpoint - but in their hearts they know it'll come for them in the end. And the Lost producers are kidding themselves if they haven't accepted this yet, which is why we suspect the long-anticipated Lost finale will see everyone on the island necking too many cheeky vimtos and either drowning in their own vomit or accidentally driving their cars into the sea.
