SLACKERJACK - Kung Fu Statesmen
Then buzz it up

A couple of nights ago, we saw a classic piece of car-crash television. It was so unbelievably, horrifically brilliant that we were frankly worried we might have dreamt it.
It was that confusing part of the night - in between Lost and The Apprentice - when a wizened old shabby-looking man appeared on TV. "Wait a minute," we thought, "that’s Jimmy Pursey from Sham 69! On Newsnight?!" Turns out he was there to perform a special, rewritten version of If The Kids Are United to mark the Labour Party conference or something.
As he started singing, it slowly became apparent that it wasn’t really rewritten very much. Instead, Jimmy would sing the normal version of the song, but just say the word "Tony" at the end of every other line. Like a weirdo. Brilliant!
Anyway, it was vaguely political, so today’s Slackerjack is Kung Fu Statesmen, a kind of New Labour Double Dragon.
