A cheeky little shuffling intro and Scrappy Hood’s opening lines, then the bass and drums drop in like a big boot up the arse and it’s impossible not to start tapping your toes.
Milk Kan’s debut single Bling Bling Baby has already had radio play and big-ups from Steve Lamacq, Chris Moyles and Jonathan Ross as well as good reviews that liken Milk Kan to a mix of Violent Femmes, The Streets and early Dylan records. Milk Kan is made up of Scrappy Hood – ‘crunk preaching poet’, Jimmy Blade – guitars, Loz Vegas – drums and Will Horsebox – bass. They describe their sound as a "street party", and it’d be a good raucous one where they’d just raided a vintage jukebox of bluegrass, country, funk, punk, rock, hip hop and God knows what else.
Bling Bling Baby comes with a jaunty mean struttin’ chug, a raw surf-rock guitar riff, and is catchy as all hell. The stream of consciousness lyrics are a healthy dose of piss-taking, with just a smidge of cynical social commentary – “So keep on runnin on your treadmills, and choking on your vitamin pills, cos they ain’t working honey.†End with a nice messy rock’n’roll breakdown, and there you have it. And there’s plenty more where that came from. You’ll wanna see them live to appreciate them, it’s more than a little fun.
