Shakira likes to show off a bit of flesh to make herself feel empowered and sexy, though only as much as her mother approves of (i.e. no nipples).
Since showbiz began mums have always got in on the action of their famous offspring. Whether they are emulating, like Charlotte Church’s ma ("people mistake us for sisters!") or controlling, like Ginger Rogers’s crazy men-hating matriarch, they are forever present – either stealing the limelight or charging someone else handsomely for it.
If you are lucky enough to be dating Shakira, news that mum will be picking her outfit for the evening may come as a shock. Really, a twenty eight-year-old woman should care about her mother’s opinion, but not live by it.

If she is so shy, then why in every video is she grotesquely gyrating on all fours singing about some guy in her goat-like voice? What a bunch of bullshit- just like her and her music. She turns the sensuality of belly dancing art into a cheesy Las Vegas strip show. Boo Shakira!
Oh come on !! Mary Lou you cannot say that Shakira isn’t sensual…and as far as I know her belly dancing has nothing to do with strip shows (watch her videos again before comparing)…just admit that you dont like her because she’s got a great body.
There are many/a lot/ tons/ or artists who are talented/write their own songs/produce their own songs who are not well know and do not show off their bodies in videos, magazines etc. (i.e. Canvas) I know many dancers who are are not shy about their bodies — on the contrary they are proud of their body and what they do have. Whether or not “mother will always, always win” by that age people should be able to make their own decisions and not be worried by what other people say. I know it’s innate to think about what others have to say but in the end sometimes the comments are psychologically, emotionally and mentally not good.
And in the end I say- in my humble opinion- that regardless of how beautiful Shakira is- even rubbed in motor oil or drinking a Pepsi, her music and her fans are psychologically, emotionally and mentally not good for rock and roll en espanol.
