Scarlett Johansson doesn’t hate acting, she just understands that it’s not curing cancer, building a bridge, or doing anything remotely useful whatsoever.
"As actors, we make movies, we don’t save lives" she told Germany’s Financial Times "it’s actually not that important."
Something we all knew really, but thanks to Scarlett’s candour we’re getting it straight from the horse’s mouth.
"I’m also not proud of my films. That was never a criteria."
Instead she chooses her roles on the basis of how many people might actually go and see the movie.
No elitist art pony for Scarlett (Lost in Translation included), she doesn’t care how many students namedrop her in next semester’s ‘New Wave and Semiotics’ lecture.
"I definitely want to be in a Tim Burton film. That’s right at the top of my list." she added.
Great, we’ve got no problem with that either. He makes excellent films, reaching a massive audience, and they don’t always deliver everything you expect.
After staring in The Island – a noisy blockbuster we are all supposed to hate, but will probably turn out to be a jolly good wheeze – making a Burton flick might be a nice change of pace for Johansson.
She also has plans to direct one day, which we’ll admit is something we’re not so excited about, but still; at least she’s totally enthusiastic.
"I would even make an advert if I had to, if it meant I could direct at least once. As long as it wasn’t for tampons or something embarrassing."
Fairly enthusiastic. Scarlett Johansson is fairly enthusiastic about directing.
Nice girl though.
