Public_phoneAfter slinging a telephone into a hotel worker’s face earlier in the week, Russell Crowe (DVDs) has said sorry on TV, adding that the incident is one of the most shameful of his life.

Feeling the need to publicly apologise - and possibly start a damage-control campaign - Crowe appeared on the late night David Letterman TV show yesterday with his tail between his legs to say sorry to everyone.

Crowe was arrested and charged with assault and possession of a criminal weapon on Monday after an argument with Nestor Estrada,
a worker at New York’s Mercer Hotel ended with Crowe throwing a hotel
telephone at Estrada, leaving him with minor lacerations. Crowe’s
publicist claims that Crowe threw the phone against a wall.

On the TV show, David Letterman was his usual playful self, hiding
the telephone prop he usually keeps on his desk as Crowe came onstage.
The actor went into full-on regret mode, saying "I’m extremely sorry for this whole incident and I regret
everything that took place". He admits that he was stupid and that it
was "possibly the most shameful situation I’ve ever  gotten myself
(into) in my life".

Crowe wants to say sorry directly to the Mercer employee that took the phone blow, but "at the moment isn’t answering his phone". He’s blaming the incident on a mixture of jet-lag, loneliness and frustration at not being able to call his wife. He was in the city promoting his new boxing film, Cinderella Man.

Meanwhile, Estrada has been parading his new celebrity injury, a small cut on his right cheekbone.

He gets into all kinds of trouble, doesn’s he? Maybe he should consider anger managment?
