When looking for someone to act as the once-prodigious, now-dead Jeff Buckley why not go for talent on the level of Robert Pattinson?
After all, he is an actor lacking any discernable passion, he is attractive in a thoroughly mediocre way and he’s generally a bit crap.
It’s a perfect fit for the lead role in the still-vaunted biopic of Jeff Buckley. Especially if Pattinson is into method acting and decides to do his own stunts. In the drowning scene.
Too harsh?
Okay, maybe we don’t want Robert Pattinson dead simply for wanting to play Jeff Buckley – after all, he is just a middle-of-the-road acting type, who only achieved fame by starring in some truly awful films that appeal to children and idiots.
And after all, he only wants to play a middle-of-the-road singer, who only achieved popularity through being both dead and associated with The X Factor.
It’s a partnership for the ages.
In fact, maybe the film will feature Buckley as he is right now, thus taking complete advantage of Pattinson’s “lifeless corpse” acting the manchild employs in so much of his work. The charisma on show would be sure to be palpable.
As reported on Digital Spy, Buckley’s mum said these words:
“Whoever gets the part will need a lot of self-discipline because they won’t be able to fake it. It’s going to take a phenomenal set of skills.”
So it’s going to need real talent as well as acting talent? Ah. Robert Pattinson is probably out then. This would mean the other hopefuls – Jared Leto, James Franco and James Marsden – should probably be struck off the list along with Captain Flatface.
Though, to be fair, at least he doesn’t smell. Even if all of his time will be taken up bathing in tween urine and making dozens of incredibly dull vampire films.

Reports that X Factor winner Alexandra Burke was set to feature in a DVD extra where she takes a steaming dump on the grave of Buckley while chanting “hallelujah” were unconfirmed at the time of writing.

I love James Franco! And I don’t get what the big deal is about all these Vampire Movies…the only I ever liked was Love at First Bite with George Hamilton…and maybe Dracula with Gary Oldman.
Pattinson has an awesome voice and is a brilliant musician. Franco is tone deaf and isnt a musician. You really know how to spot talent heckler.You are in the wrong job.

Sounds like this “writer” is seriously jealous of Pattinson judging by the venom he is spewing in this article (“After all, he is an actor lacking any discernable passion, he is attractive in a thoroughly mediocre way and he’s generally a bit crap”). So you don’t care for Pattinson, fine…no one says you MUST like the guy. However he’s far more talented than you give him credit for and your opening sentence sounds like nothing more than a jealous five-year old. I’m guessing (since you shredded the twilight movie) that you haven’t read the twilight books either…to know exactly what Pattinson did to stay true to the character. I didn’t read the books for quite some time due to the hype over them, I figured it was all blown out of proportion. Once I read them though I understood the hype, I understood the characters…and Pattinson did an amazing job portraying that character.
He’s also gotten rave reviews on OTHER movies and from what I’ve heard he’s talented musically as well. I believe he could sing in a manner that makes it easier to understand what he’s saying, but I do enjoy his voice…and his musical/writing/composition skills are most definitely there.

Right-on AYM. I was going to post something exactly like this after I read the article. It seems that all of the people that trash Pattinson have never actually read the books so they don’t understand that he did a fabulous job portraying the character. I mean he was spot on with the facial expressions and the tone (which I think is what people have a problem with, but if they don’t like it, it’s the way it was written, not the actor). You can really tell that he took the time to figure Edward out (he actually spent several months alone prior to filming Twilight so he could be in Edward’s mindset when it came time to film).
What’s great about these so called “journalists” that cut him down is that their job is to research a story and report on what they’ve learned, yet journalists these days are nothing more than arrogant, insecure d***** bags that have nothing better to do than force their ignorant opinions, not facts, on readers. It’s ridiculous and sad that anyone can write about anything they want, fact or fiction, and provide it to the public. Freedom of speech has taken a turn for the worst.

Well, I don’t think you have to worry about Pattinson, since Buckley’s mom has already met with Franco. Franco discussed it in an interview and it sounds like he’s interested. He certainly looks the part.
The only thing Pattinson would have brought is that he is actually a very excellent musician and sounds an awful lot like Buckley. But, since it looks like they plan to use Buckley’s music and not have the actor sing, it really doesn’t matter.

I could not have said it any better than you Sissy. Robert is truly a beautiful and talented individual. I just love the mans laugh and the fact that he is real. He is genuine and I think thats what people love about him. I have read Twilight and the entire saga. Rob played the part of Edward with conviction and true passion. He brought a character to life from the book and he rocked the part perfectly. To hell with all those who have nothing better to do than talk shit about the man. Their just haters and jealous of this most talented man.

Robs performance in How to Be, is terrific. The complete dorkiness he was able to come up with was a sight to behold. The trailer for the Haunted Airman looks awesome and I can’t wait to see it. While I wasn’t 100% thrilled with the Twilight movie, I can say it wasn’t due to the acting. It was done as an Indy film and frankly really didn’t do the book justice. Rob and Kristen both did a fine job with what they had to work with. But the baseball field scene is still one of my favorites
Also Robs really just starting out. He’s 23 (barely) I think as he grows into his skin so to speak that we will have wonderful things from him. And I for one look forward to them.
In the meantime, what wrong with some great eye candy while you’re watching a film?

He is one of the best looking actors out there. He’s a big fan of Jeff Buckley–I think he’d do the role justice. He’s not simply ‘that vampire dude.’ He’s got a good range for someone who’s only 23.

His role as Dali was amazing. In How To Be he was so believable. Maybe you should look at your own insecurities before you start bashing a young talented actor.

As far as his acting goes, if you read the books, you would realize that he nailed the performance of “Edward”. I, myself, have never been so captivated by a performance, as I was his.

rob has a great potential. a young actor has to start somewhere and so he started in harry potter & twilight saga. rob MADE the twilight film. if it wasnt for him – there is no way this movie would have such a hugely cultist following. his charisma saved otherwise very mediocre to poor film. he is talented and CAN ACT TOO (something i cant say about kristen stewart. she is sooo blah & dah. her bella is icy, emotion-less and doesnt really care about edward). rob appears to have been coached in drama as most british & euro actors have (classics, drama, literature). the next 3-4 films r serious ones involve deeper grown-up roles than twilight. these films r no twilights and rob is the leading man in all of them. twilight & harry potter were stepping stones for him. i think this young actor will remain in the light for at least for the next 10 – 12 years – until a change of guard comes around. yes – there will be movie flops – who doesnt have them? sometimes it’s not the actor but a bad script, directing, etc. he is predicted to be the next jude law.

If you watched (or read) Twilight you will know that it is more a love story than a vampire movie. My grand-daughter didn’t enjoy reading very much UNTIL she read the Harry Potter and Twilight books.
