Ricky Gervais has tasted success, but he wants to go back to his roots. Not The 11 O’Clock Show - even he has his limits - but The Office, the show that made the vampire-toothed git famous.

Gervais is taking time off from appearing on every single TV show ever all the time and then telling everyone that he doesn’t like the exposure to write a new episode of The Office with Stephan Merchant. Not the British version of The Office, though, the American series that stars Steve Carrell.

Ricky Gervais (DVDs) has been busy lately. As well as reportedly roping in
megastars like Brad Pitt and Madonna for the second series of Extras -
so they can take turns at saying embarrassing but slightly ironically
offensive things to black people, gay people and disabled people every
week; writing and starring in his very own episode of The
Simpsons
and hosting his own - admittedly brilliant - podcast, Ricky Gervais is returning to The Office.

Set in Pennsylvania, The Office: An American Workplace has found its
feet after a shaky start and has made a megastar of Steve Carrell -
Gervais’ manager in the series - who has since starred in The
40-Year-Old Virgin
. The American series of The Office - which gets an
audience of about 10 million - is about to start its third series, and
Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant are set to write a brand-new episode.

It’s unclear what will happen in the new Gervais-penned episode of The Office, but no doubt it will be a laugh-a-minute riot full of funny dancing, staplers in jelly and hilarious mugging. Or it’ll be slightly overrated. We’ll have to see when the episode is broadcast.
