Princess Diana Death Book Prince WilliamIn a couple of days it'll be the tenth anniversary of Princess Diana's death - a day that red-eyed people up and down the land will commemorate by hurling flowers at the windscreens of any passing cars, dangerously obscuring the view.

But Prince William, one of the only people who's really got any reason to be upset by Princess Diana's death. He won't be marking the anniversary by whistling Candle In The Wind, polishing his Princess Diana collectible plates and studiously avoiding Scalextric sets - instead, Prince William will be writing a book about what Princess Diana was like as a child - something he's expertly qualified to write about because he also used to be a child and they sort of look quite similar sometimes. It's thought that Prince William's Princess Diana book will be absurdly popular, because he'll be king soon and if you don't buy it he'll get his royal henchmen to attack you with a bejewelled cutlass. Or whatever.

Although Live Earth was supposed to be the great big charity concert of the summer, it didn't take long for the world to realise that watching Razorlight sing a song in a hugely-lit football stadium was going to help climate change in the slightest and, as such, hardly anyone watched it. That left a gaping hole for the Princess Diana Tribute Concert to fill the role. And it worked - millions of people tuned in to watch Ricky Gervais nervously sweating for ten minutes in the name of Princess Diana. And the success of the concert has given Prince William an idea.

So much has been already been created to commemorate the death of Princess Diana - a charity single, a giant concert, a million bad embroideries of blonde angels, every single front page of The Daily Express for the last decade, a slightly tasteless documentary about head injuries - that Prince William knew he had to contribute something unique. But what? Has anyone ever written a book about Princess Diana? Well, yes. But what about a book describing Princess Diana's early years? Probably, yes. Then what about a book describing Princess Diana's early years written by her eldest son? Almost certainly not. So that's what Prince William has decided to do, as Zee reports:

Unpublished photographs of Princess Diana's early years before her marriage with Prince Charles are likely to be included in a book penned by Prince William as a tribute to his late mother, a leading daily reported here today. "Following the success of this summer's concert for Diana, Prince William is hoping to bring out the charity book which is full of unseen pictures taken in 1978 when she was working as a nanny for family friends," the 'Daily Mail' quoted sources close to the prince as saying.

We're not entirely sure what the book will actually contain, if it won't include stories about Princess Diana's marriage to - and subsequent divorce from - Prince Charles, let alone stories about how she almost shagged George Michael and she almost shagged David Hasselhoff. Vapour, probably.

But if Prince William's book about Princess Diana is a success, then maybe he can top up his meagre earnings as future king of England by becoming a royal biographer. Fingers crossed that happens, because the world is crying out for a first-hand account of what it's like to have a mostly drunk brother who can't stop groping girls' boobs , a Dad who couldn't define the word 'awkward' any more perfectly and a stepmother who Rod Stewart has got the hots for.
