Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have got a good reason to celebrate. Have they just adopted another swarm of children? Has Mr & Mrs Smith got it’s first-ever halfway decent review?
No, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have both been nominated for three People’s Choice awards – the only awards ceremony so ruthlessly populist that it makes Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway look like The Lady From The Sea.
The People’s Choice Awards are all voted for by the American public
– and this year the American public love Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie (DVDs)
more than anyone else. Angelina is up for the Favourite Female Movie
Star and Favourite Female Action Star awards, while Brad Pitt is up for
the Favourite Leading Man and Favourite Male Action Star awards. They
are also both up for the Favourite On-Screen Match-Up Award together, all for Mr & Mrs Smith.
The People’s Choice Awards will take place in January, and will be
presented by awful Scottish comedian turned surprising OK American
late-night talkshow host Craig Ferguson. Most of the biggest stars have
picked up at least one nomination for an award – Jamie Foxx, Adam
Sandler, Nicole Kidman, Sandra Bullock, Johnny Depp, Reese Witherspoon
and The Rock are all up for various movie awards. The Simpsons,
American Idol and Desperate Housewives help make up the nominees in the
TV categories.
However, it’s the People’s Choice music categories that really
betray it’s lowest common denominator target audience. Faith Hill, Toby
Keith, Tim McGraw and The Black Eyed Peas are among the gapingly shocking Asda-friendly
artists that can be voted for.
But even though Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are currently the King and Queen
of the People’s Choice Awards nominations, we have to wait until the
end of November to see who is up for the biggest awards of the night.
You know which ones we’re talking about… the Crest Whitestripes Fans
Favourite Smile, and the Nice n’ Easy Fans Favourite Hair awards.
