Pitt And Jolie In Mr & Mrs Smith – Review Digest
Brad Pitt (DVDs) and Angelina Jolie (DVDs) star in one of this summer’s biggest blockbusters, Mr & Mrs Smith. We haven’t seen it, but plenty of other people have – let’s see how they review it.
Pitt and Jolie are two of the biggest celebrities on the planet, thanks to their supposed marriage-breaking relationship. Despite constant denials by Jolie – she’d never sleep with a married man – the rumours that she is the reason Brad split with Jennifer Aniston (DVDs) still haven’t died down.
It helps, of course, that Pitt and Jolie play a married couple in Mr & Mrs Smith, and they were the subjects of a 60 page photo spread this week, both dressed as husband and wife.
But that’s all beside the point. We just want to know if the movie is any good or not. What did the experts think?
Tim Evans from Sky Movies tells us that the Mr & Mrs Smith’s dialogue "provides real fireworks". However, the website also rates Scooby Doo 2 as it’s second top-rated movie, so quality control might not be their strongest point.
Joshua Tyler from Monsters And Critics says "I’d prefer the movie without a happy ending team-up". Because there’s nothing like a harrowing finale to a summer blockbuster action comedy, is there?
Simon Braund from Empire Online calls it "A full-on action flick, subversive rom-com and weapons-grade star vehicle that’s drenched in Tinseltown glitz". We hope Simon actually speaks like this in real life. He sounds fun.
David Denby from The New Yorker says "When you see this movie, you can understand why the rest of the world thinks Americans are crazy". That’s not strictly true. We don’t think Americans are crazy. Just fat and stupid. Some of them, anyway.
Todd McCarthy from Variety calls Mr & Mrs Smith "Numbing and meaningless". And from someone who has seen the last two Brad Pitt films, Troy and Ocean’s 12, that must really be saying something.
Finally, John J. Puccio from DVD Town tells us to "Expect light, bubbly repartee without the menace of spies, murderers, or dead bodies in the background" Yeah, OK, he was talking about another Mr & Mrs Smith. We crack ourselves sometimes, we really do.
