That Pete Doherty is a classy guy, isn't he? And such an icon, too, what with all those drugs and arrests and being a needy hopeless moron and everything. You'll never guess what crazy japes he's been getting to lately.
As a possible response to Bang Bang You're Dead by Dirty Pretty Things – featuring most of his old band – Pete Doherty recently snuck a syringe into an interview and played Squirt Squirt You're Covered In What's Probably My Manky Blood with an MTV crew and camera.
For someone who's supposedly the second-greatest rockstar of all time, Pete Doherty really can be a bit of a wanker sometimes. People everywhere are beginning to realise that Down In Albion – regardless of KLF-invention rumours – was pretty much a giant case of the emperor's new clothes, and even the NME has removed its licky tongue from his colon. Add to this all the arrests and drug stories and you're looking at a man whose notoriety far outweighs his talent.
So, if you were Pete Doherty and you were in this position, what would you do? Knuckle down and try and make the best album you could to prove the critics wrong? Or squirt a load of something – probably your blood – out of a syringe all over a crew from MTV who just wanted to interview you? Guess which one Pete opted for.
An MTV crew were due to interview Babyshambles in Berlin, but Pete Doherty at first refused to take part in the filming, hiding in a corner instead while Babyshambles guitarist Drew McConnell complained about Pete's erratic behaviour to camera:
"I don't like leaving people waiting 10 minutes, let alone three
fucking hours. It's rude and out of order, and it's
not something that sits comfortably with us, and we apologise from the
bottom of our hearts to anyone who's ever had to wait for a show."
Then Pete strolled in, mumbled about for a while and then shot a syringe full of what appeared to be his own blood at the camera lens. The reaction the stunt got was varied, with Pete Doherty yelling:
"That was a wicked shot."
McConnell, though, took a different approach, ending the interview and saying:
"I'm really sorry about this. That's fucking fucked up."
Like we said, classy guy.
