Regular hecklerspray readers – and if you don’t count yourself among them, please issue yourself with a slap immediately – will be aware that we’ve recently been chronicling the latest US television exploits of Martha Stewart.
So far the cake-baking criminal madlady has treated American viewers to "an award-winning pig" and an audience full of women who share the same name as her. Simply because she can.
It looks like her reign as Lord Of The Surreal may be coming to an end pretty soon, however. Especially if cult magic-types Penn And Teller have anything to do with it.
Penn and Teller’s Off The Deep End – a two-hour special that those lucky Yanks will get to catch when it airs on NBC on November 13th – will go down in history as the "first-ever entirely underwater TV special."
Apparently the twisted twosome will "make submarines disappear," "showcase psychic dolphins" and – a particular favourite of that wacky Jesus fellow – "walk on water".
Hecklerspray can only pray that some enterprising, intelligent UK station – you know, kind of like Channel Four used to be – picks up this televisual treat and broadcasts it to the nation. Or, failing that, at least provide funding for a British version – in which Patrick Kielty and Lisa Riley are tied with weights, flung into the deep end of a provincial swimming pool and told to "improvise."
No breathing equipment, mind. That’d be cheating.
