Paul McCartney Linda Abuse Tapes Buys £200,000 Heather Mills DivorceOne of the more unlikely aspects of the nasty divorce between Paul McCartney and Heather Mills is the claim that Paul McCartney used to abuse his first wife Linda - and not just by singing Mull Of Kintyre to her now and again, either.

Sort of half backing up these claims possibly a bit were the existence of Linda McCartney's audio diary tapes - tapes where Linda McCartney alternated between thinking up delicious things to do with parsnips and apparently crying her eyes out about all the horrible stuff that Paul McCartney made her do, like sing on Helen Wheels or something. In fact nobody knows exactly what is contained within the Linda McCartney tapes and now they probably never will - Paul McCartney has reportedly bought the tapes for £200,000 during a secret meeting in a London branch of Eat. Which sounds like a lot of money, but Paul McCartney was in Eat, where a smoothie, a prepacked sandwich and some slices of apple in a little plastic bag cost about six times that amount.

Your perception of someone can really change over the course of a year, can't it? Up until recently for example, Paul McCartney was mostly known as the waggly-headed, thumb-waving member of The Beatles who spent all his life singing songs into space and dragging his lovely monoped wife Heather Mills up to Canada to happily roll about with some bemused seals. A year later, though, and Paul McCartney's messy divorce with Heather Mills has entirely changed his changed his public image. Now, instead of a lovable moptop, we mainly see Paul McCartney as a snarling wineglass-toting wife abuser who only gets up from laying hungover in his nest of drugs to laugh at his disabled wife and push her over small tables sometimes.

Needless to say, it's been said that Paul McCartney will fight these abuse claims in court, possibly because Rod Stewart told him to, but that doesn't clear up the claims that Paul McCartney used to beat his first wife Linda around too. Because, while Paul McCartney and Heather Mills were busy changing locks and hiring royal divorce lawyers, rumours were circulating that tapes existed where Linda McCartney can he heard offloading about the darker aspects of being married to Paul McCartney.

When news of these tapes got out Stella McCartney threatened to kill Heather Mills, but Paul McCartney has had a slightly less insane idea - he's apparently bought the Linda McCartney tapes from their owner Peter Cox for £200,000, as the New York Daily News reports:

The ex-Beatle was handed an envelope stuffed with audiotapes - which may contain damaging reflections on his first marriage - in a meeting with Peter Cox… The two men sat in public view in a central London café on Wednesday and drank smoothies and nibbled pastry as they discussed McCartney's venomous split from Mills, the Mail said. Citing a witness to the meeting, the Mail reported that McCartney allegedly said about Mills: "Everyone knows she is a liar." He reportedly said her lies included allegations in recent leaked documents that McCartney had a drinking problem "just because I sometimes go to pubs." According to the witness, McCartney also revealed that Mills is seeking 80 million British pounds as a divorce settlement.

Since Linda McCartney tapes are such big business, we've got one of our own we'd like to sell. Instead of potentially dramatic revelations about her marriage to Paul McCartney, this Linda McCartney tape is a cassette copy of Wings At The Speed Of Sound that we picked up at a boot fair a few years ago. Bidding starts at £200,000. £100,000? £100? £1? 10p? OK, that's probably a fair price, it is pretty terrible.
