The Oscars are rapidly approaching, and we’re excited. Not because we want to see what dresses the actresses will turn up in - we’re not weird - but because we want to bet on the outcomes.

Last week we looked at the Oscars betting odds of the Best Supporting Actor category, and found out that this year the academy likes mental mob bosses, boxing managers, racist policemen, fat men with beards and the obligatory gay cowboys. But what about the Best Supporting Actress Oscar? Who’ll win that?

We’ll start today with the first part of our Best Supporting Actress Oscar betting odds coverage, by looking at the odds of Frances McDormand, Catherine Keener and Amy Adams. Oscars betting odds come with help from SportingOdds.com

Frances McDormand - Frances McDormand played Glory in North Country.
Frances seems to be turning into the cheeky sidekick of Charlize
Theron
. In North Country she plays a hardass who ends up in a
wheelchair. And the academy bloody well loves that sort of thing.
Usually, that’d be enough to get her the Best Supporting Actress Oscar,
but she’s the outsider this year. Maybe because she was in Aeon Flux
with Charlize Theron, too. And was rubbish. Current Best Supporting
Actress Oscar betting odds - 20/1

Catherine Keener - Catherine Keener played Harper Lee in Capote.
Catherine Keener is a funny one - she’s a bit unpredictable in her
choice of film roles. One minute she’ll be the world-weary sidekick to
Sean Penn, another minute and she’ll be a hilarious old love interest
sidekick in The 40-Year-Old Virgin. And then she’ll be nominated for
playing Truman Capote’s mate in Capote. We’ll come clean and admit that
we haven’t seen Capote, so we have no idea if Catherine Keener is
brilliant or shit in it. The odds say she’s somewhere in between.
Current Best Supporting Actress Oscar betting odds - 14/1

Amy Adams - Amy Adams plays Ashley in Junebug. Who the heck is Amy
Adams? We don’t know - she was in the American version of The Office,
and a couple of episodes of Buffy. And Catch Me If You Can. So you’d
imagine Junebug would be a hilarious japefest, wouldn’t you. Wrong!
It’s a quietly sad, well-observed film about small town life in
America. Sounds rubbish, but we hear that Amy Adams is OK in it.
Current Best Supporting Actress Oscar betting odds - 7/1

That’s all for today - tomorrow we’ll be taking a look at the
betting odds for the other two Best Supporting Actress Oscar nominees.
