The nominations for the Oscars have been announced! Yay! But we don’t know who’ll win the Oscars yet! Boo! But we’ve got betting odds for the main Oscar categories! Yay again!

That’s right; between now and Oscars day - March 5, fact fans - we’ll be giving you the betting odds for the six main Oscars categories - Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actress and Best Supporting Actor. And the sensible thing to do would be to place a juicy great bet on the outcome of these awards - let’s face it, it’ll be the only way to make the Oscars bearable.

We’ll start today with the first part of our Best Supporting Actor Oscar betting odds coverage, by looking at the odds of William Hurt, Matt Dillon and Jake Gyllenhaal. Oscars betting odds come with help from SportingOdds.com

William Hurt - William Hurt played Richie Cusack in A History Of
Violence
. Now, A History Of Violence is a hell of a film - staggeringly
measured, bleak and unflinching in its portrayal of the repercussions
of a violent past. But the highlight of A History Of Violence is the
one scene with William Hurt in it. One scene, that’s it. But it’s the
most frightening, vicious and - yes - funny scene in the entire film.
Best Supporting Actor Oscar? Best Blink-And-You’ll-Miss-Him cameo,
maybe. Or Stupidest Facial Hair. But William Hurt deserves some kind of
recognition for his role here - not that it’ll happen, mind. Current
Best Supporting Actor Oscar betting odds - 14/1

Matt Dillon - Matt Dillon played Officer Ryan in Crash. We’ll come
out and admit that we haven’t seen Crash - our lives are depressing
enough without the need to pay £7.50 to watch 74 people have a domestic
- but Matt Dillon’s role has been widely lauded. Our problem is that
you never know which Matt Dillon you’ll get in a film. The Matt Dillon
that rubbed his face in Denise Richards‘ boobies in Wild Things? The
hilarious There’s Something About Mary Matt Dillon? The ‘friendly to
magical cars’ Matt Dillon from Herbie: Fully Loaded? Nope, the Academy
seems to love the racist cop with a chip on his shoulder Matt Dillon.
But possibly not enough to give him an Oscar. Current Best Supporting
Actor Oscar betting odds - 15/2

Jake Gyllenhaal - Jake Gyllenthaal played Jack Twist in Brokeback
Mountain
. It’s been a good year for Jake - the actor who spent much of
2004 actually outrunning some ice in The Day Before Yesterday. He
played a listless soldier in Jarhead, and he’s been nominated for a
Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his role in Oscar favourite Brokeback
Mountain
. Why? Well, he had to pretend to fancy Heath Ledger, and
that’s quite the bloody task in itself. And, you know, he was all
confused and he had a moustache for some of the film, and he shouted at
a man about some turkey. All this adds up to Jake Gyllenhaal being
something of an Oscar font-runner. Current Best Supporting Actor Oscar
betting odds - 8/13

That’s all for today - tomorrow we’ll be taking a look at the
betting odds for the other two Best Supporting Actor Oscar nominees.
