Oprah And Letterman – The War Is Over

Oprah_winfrey_david_lettermanAfter a frosty 16-year period of hardened glances and sly remarks, the unthinkable has finally happened: Oprah Winfrey has agreed to appear on The Late Show With David Letterman.

For UK readers who can’t quite comprehend the enormity of this meeting, we have a suitable comparison for you. Imagine Jeremy Kyle not getting on with Michael Parkinson and then deciding to go on his TV show.

Yes, it’s that big.

The last time that Oprah Winfrey (DVDs) appeared on the David Letterman
show was back in 1989, and it wasn’t an experience she enjoyed, as she
told Time Magazine in 2003:

"I felt completely uncomfortable sitting in that chair, and I vowed I would never put myself in that position again."

Back
then, Oprah felt that she was the butt of all Letterman’s jokes. But so
much has changed since then. In 1989 Oprah was just a woman with a
daytime talkshow, not the fat again/thin again, car-giving, Tom
Cruise
-loving American institution she is now.

And to be fair, she did have a point. David Letterman has never been
shy of an Oprah crack or two, from his bizarre "Oprah, Uma – Uma
Oprah,"
line when he presented the Oscars in 1995 to him having burly
stagehands reading Oprah transcripts on his show.

However, the Letterman/Winfrey relationship has thawed a little of
late, ever since Oprah sent David some children’s books to mark the
birth of his son. Later in 2003, Letterman expressed his wish that he
and Oprah could get together for a live ‘Superbowl Of Love’.

But now Oprah Winfrey has something to promote – the opening night
of her musical version of The Colour Purple, an all-singing, all
dancing remake of the movie that Oprah gained a best supporting actress
Oscar nomination, which was itself a remake of the Alice Walker novel.
And so she has agreed to do the thing that would shamelessly get her the most press restore relations between two of the most loved TV hosts in America: appear on David Letterman.

It obviously means a lot to Letterman. He said:

"What a big night that is going to be  – not only for us, not only for Oprah, but for Broadway."

The egomanaical bitch received the biggest ass-kissing in the history of television last nite from a man who once was the funniest performer in Tv. The bottomless well of self-promotion and arrogance made her the perfect butt (i.e., kicking her in her big fat ass) for Letterman’s humor;reading Oprah transcipts was a breath of fresh air;watching Dave grovel before the New Age Asshole was revolting.
