Oasis: ‘We’ll Never Play Glastonbury Again’
Does anyone really still care about Oasis (CDs)? Even those of us who came of teenage age in the murkily-nostalgic Britpop era have felt our affection for the monobrowed Gallagher brothers fade away to nothing. They’re like a withered old relative going through a long drawn-out death process (or Heathen Chemistry (CD), to give it it’s proper name).
And so – nearing the release of next album and monumental non-event Don’t Believe The Truth (CD) – Noel Gallagher has announced that his merry band of Mancunians have absolutely no intention of ever playing Glastonbury again…
…to which thousands of disgruntled 2004 festival-goers will probably scream "good!"
"I’ve played Glastonbury three times now," Noel mused, "and I haven’t enjoyed it." No kidding, pal. Last year’s ‘headline act’ was possibly the most phoned-in drama-school-read-through of a performance ever to grace those muddy magical fields.
"We’ve come to the conclusion that we probably won’t do it again," he sighed. Really, Noel? Well, maybe that’s better for all concerned.
Anyone who has been keeping up to date with the Gallaghers’ latest press purge (yes, despite their utter irrelevance, they’re still capable of giving an amusing soundbite or two) will have heard their claims that their latest material is "the best thing they’ve done" since debut album Definitely Maybe (CD).
Yes, lads. Righty-ho. We believe you. Unlike those nasty cynics, say, who’d probably claim that this upcoming release is going to be about as exciting as emptying a quarry with a teaspoon. While listening to George Michael Sings The London Phone Directory. On lithium.
Now, if only the Stereophonics (CDs) would start boycotting festivals, then we might be getting somewhere.
[story by C J Davies]

C J Davies clearly knows nothing about music, he fails to see the difference between music and image, and he is an image fan. Almost all musicians across the world respect oasis for being the best band around musicly. end of story, I suggest you remove your head from your anus, before making unsubstantiated idiotic comments like that again.
The problem Oasis face is that Definately maybe and whats the story were of such creative guiniess that it is hard for them to top, however as any musician or real music fan will tell you be here now and standing on the shoulders of giants, were also outstanding musicly, they were a huge let down, compared to the first 2 albums, but better than the best most other bands can come up with in a whole career.
I suggest that C J Davies researches the difference between image fans ‘teen boppers’ and music fans – ‘adults’ and realises that music has nothing to do with the way the artist speaks, acts, dresses, says, or does. music is the arrangement of notes and lyrics in relation to each other and a beat, to form melody and rhythm, and poetry to go with it. Image is for teenagers, looking to be different and looking for a style.
George Michael can sing me the phone directory any day
)
Actually it is Liam Gallagher who says image is everything – did you read his recent NME interview? He said if the band haven’t got the image then they haven’t got it, or words to that effect.
Dave Sauros, one has to question your objections to C.J Davies article. You seem to be describing a taste in music you clearly do not posses. I’m not sure that musicians throughout the world came together in a moment of genre deifying unification to applaud the efforts of two coked-up chav’s from Manchester (at least certainly not on their previous two efforts). Further to this your quote “music is the arrangement of notes and lyrics in relation to each other and a beat, to form melody and rhythm, and poetry to go with itâ€, is hardly likely to make it into the dictionary as an all encompassing definition of ‘music’ now is it. Finally Oasis haven’t exactly been retiring artists who only want to be judged and remembered for their art have they? So we can’t blame journalists commenting upon them in this way if they so blatantly court it.
How many covers do you do in your set, by the way?
What would liam know, he is an idiot/ marketing guiniess, Oasis are hugely popular around the world because of the music, not the image, ask someone in the know !!
And who should I ask you? Would you be able to illuminate me with your clear knowledge of all things musical?
