Oasis Star Liam To Be Movie Gangster?

MoviegoerLiam Gallagher of Oasis (CDs), currently number one in the album charts with Don’t Believe The Truth, is lining himself up to play a movie gangster.

According to The Independent, Gallagher has held meetings in Scotland about starring in a film about real-life Manchester Gangland boss Paul Ferris. The lead is likely to be taken by Robert Carlyle (DVDs), while Gallagher is being linked to the role of Paul Massey, currently in prison for stabbing a man in the groin and leaving him for dead.

The film has the working title of The Apprentice, but is sadly not the story of Alan Sugar knocking around a dusty warehouse full of rubbish e-mail telephones shouting at idiots.

Instead, it’s based
around a biography of Paul Ferris, who served as an enforcer for Arthur
Thompson
, a Glasgow gangster. After a falling out, Ferris was charged
and the acquitted of the murder of Thompson’s son, Arthur ‘Fat Boy’
Thompson Jr
. He was jailed in 1998 for selling machine guns.

But Liam Gallagher would be playing Paul Massey, an associate of
Ferris and an apparent "Mr Big" in the Manchester crime scene last
decade, according to Salford’s council chamber. He is known for trying
to keep heroin off the the streets of Manchester with stickers on
lampposts warning dealers they would be "smacked".

But will Liam be any good at acting? The rockstar/filmstar crossover
rate is incredibly low. Mick Jagger has often tried, and failed, to be
taken seriously as an actor, as anyone who has seen Freejack can
testify. And Madonna has made terrible film after terrible film
throughout her career.

Staying closer to home, Damon Albarn also tried to act alongside
Robert Carlyle in Face, an actually quite good British gangster film,
although it’s mainly good because Albarn gets killed halfway through.
And Liam’s brother, Noel Gallagher, managed to wreck the one tiny line
he was given in Channel 4′s The Young Person’s Guide To Becoming A
Rockstar
a few years ago.

Will Liam be able to buck the trend? Leave your comments below.
