No More Punk’d: Ashton Kutcher Unemploy’d
It's difficult to know whether Punk'd was brilliant TV or terrible TV. One the one hand, Punk'd showcased the comic talents of Ashton Kutcher as he played smug tricks on all his wealthy Hollywood chums, and on the oth- oh, OK, Punk'd was terrible TV.
Was terrible TV. Read that? Punk'd was terrible TV. Punk'd isn't terrible TV any more because the forthcoming season of Punk'd will be the last – so make the most of seeing Ashton Kutcher leap around like an excited sugar-fuelled toddler, whooping and cackling about what a hilarious master of genius comedy he is in front of some non-plussed people who are far more famous than he is while you still can. We don't know how Ashton Kutcher will follow Punk'd, but something tells us it'll involve sleeping with Demi Moore a lot. Damn you Kutcher, why can't you ever let us win?
Every morning Ashton Kutcher gets to look himself in the eye safe in the knowledge that while he may have sucked off a Nazi in The Butterfly Effect, he'll always be remembered as the finest purveyor of hidden camera prank TV shows after Candid Camera, Beadle's About, Trigger Happy TV, Noel Edmond's Gotcha, Just For Laughs, Scare Tactics, Oblivious, Balls Of Steel, Rio Ferdinand's World Cup Wind-Ups and some CCTV footage of an abandoned shopping trolley at the top of a hill in the woods at midnight.
But although Punk'd isn't entirely without merit – after all, if it wasn't for Punk'd then nobody would have ever pulled a gun on Ashton Kutcher – Punk'd is definitely a thing of the past because, as soon as this season is over, no more episodes of Punk'd will ever be made again. E! Online reports:
MTV announced Monday that the eighth season of Ashton Kutcher's hidden-camera show would be its final outing. To mark the celebrity-pranking series' sendoff, the network said it would air all eight episodes from the upcoming season back-to-back in a special "sneak peek marathon" on Apr. 7. The new season will then officially premiere on Apr. 10, as part of MTV's new Tuesday night lineup. "We decided to make an event out of it," MTV Entertainment president Brian Graden told the Hollywood Reporter. "We're looking to experiment with many alternate programming and premiere models as a way for things to take hold in an age of technology."… As a final farewell to his long-running series, Kutcher will host a special Punk'd awards ceremony on June 5, honoring some of the most memorable moments from all eight seasons.
The end of Punk'd leaves Ashton Kutcher in something of a quandary. Now that his autobiographical sitcom has come to nothing, Ashton Kutcher really just has two career choices left – either he can carry on making Coast Guard movies that nobody wants to see or he can take a break from business and try to get Demi Moore pregnant like she wants.
None of this sounds particularly interesting, though, so it's our guess that before too long Ashton Kutcher will be back doing what he does best – pulling hidden-camera pranks on famous people before tearing off his disguise and telling them "Ha-HAH! It's me, Ashton Kutcher from Punk'd! Kutcher… no, Kutcher with a K. What do you mean you don't know who I am? I've been in films and stuff. Ever see Dude Where's My Car? No? Anyway, I was in that. Kutcher, Ashton Kutcher. Married to Demi Moore? No, I'm not Bruce Willis…"

I get the feeling the only person who’ll even be marginally upset about Punk’d ending is Kutcher himself. Shame he passed up The Butterfly Effect 2 when he had the chance
