The chief marketing officer for Nintendo in America, Reggie Fils-Aime, recently told Spike TV that the successor to Nintendo’s Gamecube, codenamed Revolution will be released sometime this year.

Fils-Aime also spoke to Spike TV about the highly anticipated game, Zelda: The Twilight Princess. He made sure to point out that the new Zelda game will definitely be released for the Nintendo Gamecube, and will hit stores this autumn.

The upcoming release of the Nintendo (Stuff) Revolution is no surprise, but The Twilight
Princess
was originally intended to come out in November of 2005 for
the Gamecube. Instead, weeks before the release it was pushed back to
the first quarter of this year.

Speculation has been rampant that the new Zelda will be released for
the Revolution instead of the first intended Gamecube. Fils-Aime put
that rumour to rest with an interview with the magazine Electronic
Gaming Monthly
(EGM). He said that The Twilight Princess will be
compatible with both the Gamecube and the Revolution, and that the game
will have special functionality for those that play it on the
Revolution. In his words he revealed:

“The trick will be what makes it
special to play on the Revolution, and to the extent that we could
create something like that, boy, wouldn’t that be fantastic?”

There’s going to be more details to come on the Nintendo Revolution and Zelda: The Twilight Princess in May at this year’s E3. We can’t wait.
