Digg this!

Nintendo_ds_wifiFrom November 25th, British users of the Nintendo DS will be able to benefit from such a luxury as free Wi-Fi gaming. Seems like Nintendo supporters should virtually never have to experience the startlingly empty feeling of not having a gaming partner ever again.

Nintendo, in cooperation with BT Openzone and The Cloud, is making an attempt to deliver Wi-Fi gaming to as many residents in the UK as possible, and there will be several ways of accessing the network…

More than 7,500 shops, restaurants and stations offering access to the Nintendo DS (Buy) Wi-Fi network, excluding hotspots installed at video games retailers. Homes with a Wi-Fi access point are also able to access the delicious Wi-Fi DS servers.

The network as yet only supports the Nintendo DS, but there are future plans
to include the forthcoming Nintendo Revolution, once it’s released. At last, Nintendo is making
an effort to compete with the online function of the XBox. In slight
anticipation, we can’t help wondering what Sony will have to come up with.

If you do not own a Wi-Fi thingy, Nintendo is generous enough to offer
you one of their very own. For only the cheap, cheap price of £30, you’ll get a Nintendo
Wi-Fi USB Connector
(TM) that automatically sets up a connection for
you. Or you could just buy a fully functional Wi-Fi router from eBay instead,
contact a computer geek (the user-friendly kind) who will install it
for you. leaving you with enough cash to buy another DS title. Mario Cart DS for example. It supports Wi-Fi, you see…

All this DS Wi-Fi talk is all sweets and candy, but we can’t help having doubts as to how some of the hotspots will be
working. Will game retailers allow anyone to leisurely stroll in and
connect to the Nintendo servers? And what about the restaurant? They’ll probably order the gamer to buy something before they start playing, and gaming and food
doesn’t really mix. Grease and sticky buttons are natural enemies, just like Batfink and Hugo A Go Go.

Hopefully it will turn thumbs up, but we’ll know for sure soon enough. Until then, patience.
