New Line Cinema Really Really Hates Peter Jackson

January 11th, 2007 at 13:30 by Shawn Lindseth

Peter Jackson, The Hobbit, New Line, Bob Shaye, LOTR, DirectIn recent minutes hecklerspray has seriously been considering giving up the entertainment news biz to pursue a full time career suing people.

Don't worry though, we'd only sue people who deserve it - like that prison guard who dry-electric-chaired the semi-retarded inmate in The Green Mile. Seriously - did any of you see that? Who was really the criminal - we ask you!

Well, lawsuit living was our plan right up until we saw how bad such a life can bone you a la Peter Jackson. He's suing New Line Cinema, the company that teamed up with him to bring us some trilogy that our cousin Reginald tells us was good, but needed more light-sabers. Peter Jackson feels he got gypped out of a bunch of money during the course of those movies, and sued New Line appropriately.

And New Line… they're so pissed they've sworn a blood oath to never work with Peter Jackson again - not even on the upcoming The Hobbit movie! A blood oath we tell you!

Peter Jackson, a man best known for directing The Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy of something, has lawsuit-ed his way onto a blacklist that makes basement-dwellers the world around extremely sad. Technically we reported something very similar to this a while back - remember? First Peter Jackson wasn't gonna direct the upcoming Hobbit movie, then maybe he still was gonna make it… it's been a real teeter-totter. A teeter-totter, mind you, with a very fat kid opposite Jackson, because the latest news is that the president of New Line Cinema has gone public with his absolutely refusing to work with Peter Jackson ever again. We're told this also rules out a fourth Matrix movie where Neo gets his eyeballs back. We're really bummed about that because Pete did so good on the first three. Remember the fight scenes?

Bob Shaye is the current reigning monarch of New Line, and this is what he said of his Jackson-beef:

"I do not want to make a movie with somebody who is suing me. It will never happen during my watch. He got a quarter of a billion dollars paid to him so far, justifiably, according to contract, completely right, and this guy, who already has received a quarter of a billion dollars, turns around without wanting to have a discussion with us and sues us and refuses to discuss it unless we just give in to his plan. I don't want to work with that guy anymore. Why would I? So the answer is he will never make any movie with New Line Cinema again while I'm still working for the company."

Had Jackson been able to direct said Hobbit movie, it would have been his most anticipated film since Escape to Witch Mountain came out in 1972. With this new light of the problems lawsuits can cause, we'd like to gracefully back out of all of ours. That's right - Bob Marley doesn't really owe us back royalties, Anna Nicole's baby isn't really possibly ours, and Michael Jackson never ever touched our nethers.

The air is clear.

You know who New Line should get to do The Hobbit if Peter Jackson isn’t? The Rush Hour guy, It’d be cool - Bilbo Baggins would go into a cave, shoot his mouth off and then Gandalf would totally have to do some wicked kung-fu on a dragon. Either the Rush Hour guy or the man who did Dreamgirls. Not enough power ballads in the hobbit
