New_james_bond_des_lynamBig news, people! Although there’s still no official word on who the next James Bond will be, we have it on good authority (translation: we read on a spurious Internet spaz-board) that Sony and Eon are meeting next week to thrash out the identity of the new James Bond.

If they come to a conclusion, they’ll announce the new James Bond next week. If they don’t, you shouldn’t hold your breath to see Casino Royale any time soon. If any of you actually were holding your breath in the first place.

Anyway, the news kind of makes this the home stretch for James Bond betting odds. So if you want to join in the betting fun, now’s the time to do it.

Here are the betting odds for another five new James Bond contenders, with a little bit of help from Betfair.com

Ioan Gruffudd - Ioan’s another firm favourite for the role of Bond.
Mostly, this boils down to him playing Hornblower, the hard-but-fair
captain of a Nelson-style warship. He proved himself to be dashing and
gallant and all that Bond-y nonsense. He also played Lancelot in King
Arthur
, so he’s also got the whole Bond-y ’sleeping around’ vibe. Plus,
he’s got crazy stretchy arms! Give him the job! Current odds - 17/5

Dougray Scott - Another long-time favourite, although the buzz
around Scott had died down of late. Apparently there was a time where Dougray was so confident of getting the Bond role that he changed his gym
membership number to 007 or something. But for some reason the
producers turned their back on Dougray. Maybe they watched Mission:
Impossible II
, where Scott seemed only able to express emotion by
shouting "Aaaaaaaaaargh!" at the top of his voice all the time. Current
odds - 22/1

David Tennant - David has a kind of ‘Christian Bale’ problem; you just can’t be James Bond and
Dr Who at the same time. Imagine the confusion - the poor fellow would
start trying to defeat Scaramanga with a Sonic Screwdriver, or giving Cybermen neck-chops. Plus, David Tennant is exactly the
same height as a young child, so that also rules him out. Current odds
- 22/1

Robbie Williams - Jesus, imagine that: a pretend-reggae Bond. Robbie
Williams - more than anyone else we’ve mentioned doing these odds -
would absolutely be the worst option to be James Bond. Your Nan would
be a better Bond. He’d do all that ‘cheeky on the outside, emotionally
wounded on the inside’ codswallop. Plus, he’s got a girly voice. Plus,
he tried being Bond in the Millenium video, and looked like a proper
twat. No no no no no. Current odds - 25/1

Des Lynam - Now this is more like it. Although he might be a shade
over the age of 28, Des Lynam is just about the suavest cat on the
planet. He can do the eyebrow thing, he’s a giant of a man, and the
ladies would fall at his feet wherever he went. He might be too busy
fooling around with Carol Vorderman to stick to the filming
commitments, but you’ve got to admit he’d be a good choice, right?
Right? Current odds - 43/1
