Another day passes with no word of who the new James Bond will be. So you lucky cats are getting another dose of new James Bond betting odds.
While the identity of the actor who will play James Bond remains all up in the air, The Sun yesterday claimed that personality-free tits-on-legs dimwit Kelly Brook is auditioning to be a Bond girl in Casino Royale. Which makes us want Patrick Kielty to audition for Bond, so that their shonky Celebrity Love Island ‘chemistry’ can be recreated.
Here are the betting odds for five more new James Bond contenders, with a bit of help from Betfair.com…
Jeremy Northam - We know what you’re thinking: Jeremy who? But
Jeremy is a front-runner to be the new Bond. He ticks a surprising
amount of boxes; he’s English, suave - he played Ivor Novello in
Gosford Park - and has been linked to all kinds of airheads. If the
new James Bond is meant to be 28, Jeremy’s far too old for the job, but
that hasn’t stopped loads of people betting on him. Current odds - 17/5
Damian Lewis - Damien would probably be a good James Bond if the
producers are looking to take the franchise in a more serious
direction. He’s played military men more times than we care to remember
- including a Nazi once - and he’s also played Jeffrey Archer, the
archetypal Bond-style posh arsehole. But is the world ready for a ginger 007?
Current odds - 11/1
Eric Bana - Bana was an early favourite to play Bond, but his odds
have dropped off a little lately. If he acts as well as he did in
Chopper, he should get the job. But if he acts as weirdly as he did in
Hulk, he should keep the hell away. Eric’s already filming a poker flick, and if he adds Casino Royale to his portfolio, he might get pigeonholed as Mr Gambler for the rest of his life. And also,
Australians have a bit of a crappy track record when playing Bond. Current
odds - 11/1
Jason Statham - We’ve changed our mind: if Kelly Brook is going to
be a Bond girl, Jason Statham should be Bond. There’d be all that weird
love triangle-y stuff going on, especially if Billy Zane gets to play
the villain. Oddly, Statham has never been so famous, despite Revolver
stinking like a tramp in a lift. Transporter 2 was a number one film in
America, after all. But his upcoming films seem uniformly awful, so being Bond would
help him out immensely. We get the impression, however, that he’d be a bit too xXx
for the role. Current odds - 11/1
Harrison Ford - The new Bond is supposed to be 28, not 128. Harrison
Ford is going to look a fool prancing round with a whip in the new
Indiana Jones film, so just imagine what he’d look like creaking all
over the place as James Bond. He’d have a special gun that fired Werther’s Originals and the gadget on his watch would be a voice that
says the time really loud because his eyesight’s going a bit. Hannibal
in The A Team? Yes. James Bond? No. Current odds - 27/2
