New James Bond Betting Odds – Australian Soapstar Edition
***LATEST NEW JAMES BOND BETTING ODDS! CLICK HERE***
We really hope that Eon and Sony can decide a new James Bond sometime this week – we’re desperate to know who it will be.
Waiting for them to decide is like waiting for someone to come out of the bathroom so we can go in and do a wee – and we’ve been waiting for so long, we’re starting to need to do a poo as well.
On the bright side, there’s still an opportunity to bet on the identity of the new James Bond. As well as the usual favourites to take the role, there are also a bunch of outsiders waiting to be bet on.
So here’s today’s stash of Bond wannabe betting odds – today all former Antipodean soapstars - with a little bit of help from Betfair.com…
Julian McMahon – Julian currently has the shortest odds of any new
Bond contender except for Daniel Craig and Pierce Brosnan. It’s a big
leap for the Australian who started his career on Home And Away. In
recent years, he’s been Dr Christian Troy in Nip/Tuck and, less
successfully, the baddie in The Fantastic Four. And he used to be
married to Dannii Minogue. Apparently, McMahon was almost offered the role of Bond back in February, but for some reason, he didn’t get the part.
Have the producers changed their minds? And anyway, if they’re going to
choose an Aussie soapstar, why don’t they go the whole hog and pick
Toadfish from Neighbours? Current odds – 4/1
Karl Urban – Another Antipodean ex-soapstar, Karl Urban became
famous starring in every layabout’s favourite New Zealand daytime soap,
Shortland Street. Since then, he’s been embraced by the gormless corner
of Hollywood, and had parts in schlock like Ghost Ship, Lord Of The
Rings, The Chronicles Of Riddick and Doom. His career trajectory seems
to want him to star in all kind of geeky action claptrap, not
sophisticated action claptrap like James Bond films. Current odds – 49/1
Russell Crowe – Everyone knows Russell Crowe as the phone-flinging
Hollywood hardman, but he was also an Aussie soapstar at one point,
playing Kenny Larkin in Neighbours. He’s easily the most famous
Neighbours escapee, firstly for running round in a leather dress in
Gladiator, but most recently for actually being really good in
Cinderella Man. However, he’s way too famous to be James Bond, and he’d
probably foul the role up considerably if he got the job. He’d want to
be all serious and stuff. Ugh. Current odds – 49/1
Heath Ledger – Another Australian, and another former Home And Away
star. Heath Ledger, though younger than everyone else in today’s list, is one of the more
established Hollywood actors. He’s been in teen nonsense like 10
Things I Hate About You and A Knight’s Tale; he’s been in serious,
award-winning films like Monster’s Ball and Brokeback Mountain; and
he’s been in The Patriot – without a doubt the worst film ever created.
He’s young enough to play the Casino Royale Bond, but we’re fairly sure
he’s not nearly suave enough for the part. Current odds – 54/1
