New Bands We Like: Oppenheimer

Digg this!

Every now and again, hecklerspray gets invited to listen to demos by new bands. And, invariably, most of them are bobbins.

However, Bar/None Records – the evil geniuses that have released jaw-dropping records by Evan Dando, Mosquitos, Puffy AmiYumi, Architecture In Helsinki and the wonderful Spinto Band – sent us word of their new signing over the weekend. And we’ve been listening to them ever since.

They’re called Oppenheimer, there are two of them, and they’re from Belfast. And that’s pretty much all we know. But their music has put a dirty great smile on our faces that we just haven’t been able to shift.

Oppenheimer are like a slightly more anthemic Joy Zipper, or a slightly more funky Grandaddy. And they’re fantasically, unashamedly pop. Although they haven’t actually released anything just yet, through the magic of the Internet you can listen to three of their songs right now.

We’re expecting to hear more from Oppenheimer. A lot more.

Listen to Breakfast In NYC, My Son The Astronaut and Saturday Looks Bad… by Oppenheimer here.
