MySpace Trawl - Tim And Sam’s Tim And The Sam Band With Tim And Sam
Then buzz it up

We bet you a piece of chewing gum, 17p from our wallets and a can of Fanta that you can’t name the people in this band.
Feeling confident? You probably would with the name Tim and Sam mentioned multiple times in the band name. However, our insides are soon to be turned orange as you give us cans of fizzy orange sugar water. You see, there are five people in the band. Tim, Adam, Becca, Kathryn and Richard.
But besides petty betting over worthless things, we’re here to remind you of the amazing music we’ve bumped into on our internet journey. Hailing from Manchester, a city dripping in musical history, we found Tim And Sam’s Band [TASB for short]. Their melting pot of vast musical instrumentation makes for a listen that sounds like nothing out there at the moment.
It may just be us, but we hate stupidly named genres which don’t seem anything. But we may just have to annoyingly invent one to categorize TASB. Feelgood post-folk instrumental loveliness. Sorry about how pretentious that sounds, but it’s better than saying ‘calm indie with no words because they couldn’t be bothered to get a singer.’
But some things don’t need words. The music simply speaks for itself. According to their MySpace page, the following instruments are blended together to create songs of total beauty and originality. Guitar, bass, banjo, ukulele, clarinet, soprano saxophone, piano, glockenspiel, marimba, melodica, flute, violin, viola and drums. We’re not even sure what a marimba does, but whatever it is, it makes for a great listen.
What makes the music stand out even more is that the music is all acoustic. We aren’t seeing anything acoustic make an impression on the charts at the moment. It’s with bands like TASB that you see a little bit of a difference in terms of music making.
Despite the band being only one year old, they’ve certainly got a few influential music figures on their side. Peter Hook from New Order and the ace Stephen Fretwell have all sung the band’s praises. Radio play has also come their way from some of the biggest broadcasters. Steve Lamacq, Huw Stephens, Colin Murray and Marc Riley have all played tracks on their respective shows.
Gigging doesn’t seem to be a problem for the band either. There are plenty listed for around the country and this in itself is a notable achievement. Whilst a lot of bands struggle to get gigs outside the safety of their own city, TASB have got dates all around the country. From gigs to festivals, they are playing it.
All that remains for us to say is go and listen to them. Inside The Egg is our favourite of the songs up for listening on their MySpace page. The other four are equally breathtaking and make us wonder why they aren’t more popular than they should be.
