The Locust MySpace TrawlIt’s OK! You can stop pressing refresh on your browser - our weekly look at all the strange and wonderful goings on in the world of MySpace is here.

We literally sit down and listen to shedloads of stuff each week to pass on the good stuff to you. We’d like to think we cover all styles to cater for everyone, from folk, electronic, stuff we can’t categorise and rock. Today, we are going down the rock road to bring you The Locust. But calling them 'rock' is a very loose label to tag them with. It’s more 'experimental rock with lots of random bits and pieces thrown in for good measure'. This is going to be a case of people thinking “Ooh, someone is doing something different, so I won’t listen,” we just know it.

What sets The Locust apart from a lot of artists we’ve previously featured is their interesting choice of dress, especially for live shows. The blogs on their MySpage contains hardly any words, just multiple pictures of the mysterious fourpiece dressed in what can only be described as slightly warped superhero outfits. Unless we’re mistaken - which is probably true - it seems that the band don’t particularly want their faces splattered around the media. Or maybe because singer Justin Pearson has previously said "I just want to change the way people look at music or maybe just destroy it in general."

So-called music experts would probably want to hurt and destroy the band for what they are doing. The difference between The Locust and other acts that are doing the whole screamy rock thing is that they are very synth heavy. But taking it further, the synths they use are uniquely distorted which adds a sinister level of menace to the performance. Add to that the chopped up and almost sometimes randomly placed guitars; it gives the perfect balance of noise rock.

We like them even more because they obviously have a decent sense of humour for a genre which is seen as serious and sometimes up its own arse. Performers and outsiders alike both think this. Their new album is brilliantly entitled New Erections and is full of loud noisy madness.

All four tracks are available to download as well! So why not get some free MP3s that haven’t been illegally downloaded. Lovely!
