MySpace Trawl – Alan Titmash

You know when you see something, think it’s a bit dodgy and have to revisit the same thing again? Well that happens a lot to us.
In an almost everyday occurrence, we rub our eyes in amazement at the things we see and hear. From talking dogs to 20-foot-tall people. We often don’t believe ourselves, though our alcoholism probably doesn’t help us deceiver fact from fiction.
When we discovered Alan Titmash we were slightly alarmed to think that the former Ground Force gardener has ventured in to the world of electronics. Sadly we were wrong, Mr Titchmarsh is presenting bad chat shows on ITV and not making music. Still, gardencore isn’t a real genre, so there could be time for him yet.
From his MySpace profile, Mr. Titmash promises to deliver a mix of experimental, jungle and hardcore. So it’s not going to be chart-friendly muck. All the better for us, then. Frankly, we’re a bit bored of chipmunk-style vocals on factory-processed music.
Sometimes it is alarmingly easy for substandard and piss-poor electronic records to be pressed onto vinyl or CD. After finding a semi-decent drum pattern, your average laptop producer will loop their efforts over and over for a few minutes. Chuck in a few unadventurous melodies and you’re set to release your dire effort onto the public who would rather contract black death than listen to you.
The attention to detail that has gone into the tracks here is incredible. We don’t think we’ve come across an artist so far where the songs have been so well mastered. To prove our point, listen to one of the tracks you can buy yourself, Sexy Fart. It takes a lot of samples from various sources. Instead of them being poorly recorded, and subsequently sounding shit, all the samples sound crisp and clean. Placed under the brutal splattering of jungle and breakcore beats, it makes us want to jump around like fools. No chance from normal then, but the music will help us a bit.
Citing influences from strong artists in the underground electronic scene, we can quickly see Alan Titmash one day becoming an influence for people creating their own blend of musical mayhem.
