Then buzz it up

***LATEST MTV MUSIC VIDEO AWARD ODDS HERE!***
August 28th will see the 2005 MTV Music Video Awards take place in Miami. And that means there are plenty of special betting opportunities for the discerning better.
Today we’ll be looking at the nominees for the Best Male Video award. Usually, American male videos involve either gangstas driving around slowly in a pimped-out car glaring at pensioners, or a boy looking sad in the rain with his shirt off. But the MTV MVA Awards people have picked what they think are the five best videos of the last year, so hopefully we’ll be spared the sight of man-nipples.
Who’s on the shortlist? Here are the latest MTV Best Male Video odds from hecklerspray and Betfair.com…
Beck: E-Pro - After dicking around either trying to sound like
Prince or a sad boozed-up sailor, Beck this year returned to what he does best, basically saying a load of nonsense over sort of guitar-y
hip hop. As a song, E-Pro is Beck by numbers, but the video is very
special. Beck digging up skeletons in a Vib Ribbon graveyard, Beck
having his head torn off by birds and put into a washing machine, Beck
having his head shot out of a cannon and put back on his body by a dog
with a shovel. We wouldn’t expect anything less. Current odds - Evens.
50 Cent: Candy Shop - If this song has somehow passed you by, you’re not
missing much. It’s 50 Cent mumbling about confectionery like a socially
inept newsagent. The video’s not much better, either - it’s like
Charlie And The Chocolate Factory, but with girls instead of Oompa
Loompas. And much less fun. And - we’re sorry to say - it breaches the
man-nipple rule. Current odds - 1/5
Kanye West: Jesus Walks - Good old Kanye West. If a song’s as good
as Jesus Walks, he thought, why only make one video? Why not make
three? So that’s what he did. We’re not sure which one’s up for the
award, but they’re all pretty good. It could be the version where Kanye
preaches to a congregation as angels take troubled people to church; it
could be the version where a sneaky Jesus follows Kanye all over town;
or it could be the version where a Ku Klux Klansman sets himself on
fire with a burning cross. Current odds - 3/20
Usher: Caught Up - What’s this? An Usher video without man-nipples?
Give the man an award now - we were beginning to fear he’d still be
taking his top off even when he was an old and dribbley man. But that’s not
the case. In the video for the entirely generic sounding Caught Up,
Usher gets chased around by a gangster for a while and then celebrates
getting away by having a bit of a boogie on a stage. Current odds - 3/25
John Legend: Ordinary People - John Legend is the male version of Alicia Keys. And Ordinary People is his Falling. But without the "oh Oh WOAAAAH!" bit that everyone liked. The video for the song is pretty literal. He plays the piano while a bunch of, um, ordinary people shout and fight and argue. No man-nipples, though. Current odds - 1/10
Tomorrow: Best hip-hop video. But if you can’t wait that long, head over to the USA Special Bets section of Betfair.com to see how the odds are changing. Don’t forget to place a bet, pop fans.
