***LATEST MTV MUSIC VIDEO AWARD ODDS HERE!***

DanceOn Saturday August 28th, the 2005 MTV Music Video Awards will be held in Miami Florida.

"Why the hell are you banging on about the MTV Music Video Awards, you fool? It’s just a bunch of girls in short skirts tottering around miming bland-ass production-line pop!"
we hear you yell at your screen. Why do we care? Because we can bet on the results, of course. And we need to do something with all our Big Brother winnings, as we’re sure you do.

That’s why, with the help of our good friends at Betfair.com, we’ll be profiling the odds for the nine main award categories in the run up to the awards. And we’ll start with the nominees for Best Dance Video. Time was that dance videos mainly involved a man in a boiler suit leaping around blowing a whistle in front of a vaguely psychedelic backdrop. But not any more.

Now, dance music is very much like any other form of American pop - slinky, sophisticated and mostly sung by young innocent popstrels. Lets take a look at the odds for the Best Dance Video award

Jennifer Lopez: Get Right - Big arsed Cruella Deville-alike J-Lo tried
- and mainly failed - to make a big comeback with her Rebirth album in
the last 12 months, and Get Right was the first single from it. The
song itself is a couple of "uh-ohs" away from being Crazy In Love, and
the video is basically J-Lo larking about in an anorak in front of J-Lo
dressed up as other people. We’ve made it sound more exciting than it
is. Current odds - 1/5

Ciara feat. Missy Elliot: 1, 2 Step - Not to be confused with the children’s squash-based drink Kia-Ora, Ciara is a pretty young thing being looked after Missy Elliot. 1, 2 Step is apparently a dance, and it’s also a "Jazzy fizzle", although we’re afraid we’re not street enough to understand what the hell that means. As with all songs named after a dance, the video for 1, 2 Step shows Ciara doing the dance all over the place. If you’re wondering, the 1, 2 Step mostly involves hobbling about like a recovering polio victim. Current odds - 1/50

Shakira: La Tortura - Lovely Shakira. Lovely lovely lovely Shakira. With her lovely big eyes and her weird songs about horses, not even Kinga from Big Brother bellowing Underneath Your Clothes at the top of her voice could diminish her loveliness. La Tortura sounds like The Gypsy Kings - a bad thing - but the video shows her rolling around on a table covered in oil, so we’ll forgive her. Current odds - 1/50

Destiny’s Child: Lose My Breath - Destiny’s Child have split up now, but not before they released their Destiny Fulfilled album - a collection of stodgy ballads cheered up by the presence of Lose My Breath. It sounds like a marching band falling down a lift shaft and features lyrics about being punched in the stomach, or something. The video follows the tired old conceit of the singers dancing against themselves, though. Current odds - 1/50

Missy Elliot feat. Ciara: Lose Control - Missy and Ciara crop up for the second time in this category with Missy’s Lose Control. The song is basically Missy rapping over Clear by Cybotron, but the video is typical Elliot weirdness. Synchronised hoody dancing, Ciara glued up a wall, a strange end bit on a log. We like it, but we don’t understand it. Current odds - 1/100

Tomorrow - Best Female Video. But if you can’t wait that long, head over to the USA Special Bets section of Betfair.com to see how the odds are changing. Don’t forget to place a bet, pop fans.
