Or so think some anyway. But rest assured, hecklerspray has thoroughly inspected Morrissey with your various freedoms in mind. We’ve emptied his wallet and checked his pompadour for roadside bombs. We found no explosive components, though he may want to get that scalp medically treated, it’s a tad bit dry.
The FBI has joined us in our quest to get to the bottom of Morrissey, the only difference in their technique is that it was real and involved a lot more questions- none of which started with "Can we have your autograph", or ended with "Our sister soooo loves you".
It seems Morrissey once referred to G.W. Bush as a terrorist, and in this day and age that simply will not do. It is believed the FBI took into consideration the fact that Morrissey has also lyrically given the US credit for inventing the cheeseburger, thus allowing him a complete lack of deportation. Tit for tat, you know.
The FBI has some interest in Morrissey (CDs) – full name Steven Patrick Morrissey – and it’s not entirely due to his work with The Smiths.
In 2004 he voiced his dream of the US election’s ideal outcome:
"With
all my heart I urge people to vote against George Bush. Jon Stewart would be ideal, but John Kerry is the logical and sane move."
Oh snap! It wasn’t just the FBI that grilled him though, British intelligence
did too. That’s what you get for not enjoying war, Mr. Morrissey. He
seems to not have taken it very personally, as he was comfortable to
talk about it at length to the NME:
"The FBI and the Special Branch have investigated me and I’ve been
interviewed and taped and so forth. They were trying to determine if I
was a threat to the government, and similarly in England. But it didn’t
take them very long to realise that I’m not. I don’t belong to any
political groups, I don’t really say anything unless I’m asked directly
and I don’t even demonstrate in public. I always assume that so-called
authoritarian figures just assume that pop/rock music is slightly
insane and an untouchable platform for the working classes to stand up
and say something noticeable. My view is that neither England or
America are democratic societies. You can’t really speak your mind and
if you do you’re investigated."
Morrissey’s no stranger to political outspokenness. He’s begrudged
lots of political figures – mostly the British kind, from the likes of The Royal Family to Tony Blair and Margaret Thatcher. Regarding the last one there, on Morrissey’s solo album Viva Hate, he had a track called Margaret on the Guillotine. That’s not gonna win you any favours come tax day.
When one is a mind speaker like ol’ man Morrissey, it seems that personal opinion just can’t be held in. hecklerspray
speaks it’s mind all the time too and – let us tell you – Mr. Morrissey
is right. We’ve been questioned by the feds tons, except they’re
usually undercover and ask us if we’ve been saved yet. We always know
it’s them, though, so after several hours of salvation class and our on
the spot baptism, we always make them leave – with or without the names
of extended family and friends on our mother’s side.
