Miss Universe: Everyone Hates Miss USA
By and large, beauty contests are such an embarrassing anachronism that it's hard to get even the slightest bit excited about them – unless, of course, Miss USA falls over and everyone gets to boo her, in which case beauty contests are kinda fun.
We're referring to Monday's Miss Universe competition, of course. Where usually a Miss Universe competition is an excuse for the world's most dumbly pretty bubbleheads to trot up and down a walkway and pretend that they've ever had a single thought that wasn't exclusively about themselves in an attempt to win a big piece of ribbon, this year things were different. That's because this year Rachel Smith, America's contestant in Miss Universe, fell over and was then booed relentlessly when she had to try and address the Mexican audience. The Miss Universe booing incident is now being played off as a political matter, based on the USA's draconian immigration policy – but that's missing the real point here.
The real point, should you need telling, is that booing people who are prettier than you is probably the best thing in all the world.
There must have been a point in time where a beauty queen was a genuinely aspirational thing to become. Not any more, though – the majority of women have either realised that beauty contests are nothing more than outmoded efforts to undermine female accomplishments in an ultimately patriarchal society, or they've worked out that they can totally get a bunch more money if they fuck blokes on the internet for a living. That has left the beauty queen talent pool so shallow that even drunk nymphomaniac drug abusers like Miss USA Tara Conner can have a real shot at winning. Or, alternatively, people who can't walk down a simple piece of floor without falling over like a ninny, like Miss USA Rachel Smith.
Rachel Smith represented the USA in Monday's Miss Universe contest. Obviously the biggest news about Miss Universe was that it was won by yet another Earth girl – Miss Japan Riyo Mori – following last year's win by Puerto Rico's Zuleyka Rivera Mendoza. But while we'd usually be taking this time to pass on our commiserations to all the other planets in the universe who have been cruelly shut out of the Miss Universe title again, this year we've decided it'd be much more fun to look at all the abuse that Miss USA Rachel Smith got from the crowd of Mexicans she was trying to impress.
Rachel Smith's Miss Universe woes were twofold on Monday; not only did she fall over in front of everyone, but she also attempted to give a speech to an auditorium of angrily booing Mexicans. The treatment of Miss USA has kicked off a huge debate in America about whether Smith was booed because she's an idiot who can't even stand up properly or because she represents a country with strongly anti-Mexican immigration policy. Miss Universe co-owner Donald Trump thinks he knows the answer:
"I don't think they are booing because of Rachel. They are booing because of the immigration policy."
Following his statement Donald Trump then went into a 45-minute-long abusive rant about Rosie O'Donnell because there was a camera there and that's what he just assumes people wants to hear these days.
But, for all the ensuing arguments and self-exploration that the Miss Universe booing of Miss USA has started, perhaps the people of Mexico are onto something with this method of protest. We can't be alone in thinking that all international disputes would be better solved if pretty girls in bikinis from each country walked up and down a catwalk until everything was sorted out. Also, we think that Rosie O'Donnell would probably be more in favour of the Iraq War if this was the case.

The Beauty Pageants are all just a lot of bull!!!! These women are vain and I have always thought this. The comment about opening up our Borders, well, enough all ready. We have enough illlegals in our country. Let the other countries take their share. The US has gone overboard on letting all kinds in our country. It seems that we are getting a lot of criminals here instead of the majority of good people.

Now as far as your comment on land being stolen from them, well I heard all the stories from my grandparents. I agree 100% with Mr Schmidt above. However, I am liberal but not on this particular issue. As Rae points out, “He does what all you lazy ass americans won’t do.. he actually does the hard work.” The reason that us “lazy ass Americans” don’t do the hard work is because there are people (illegal immigrants) that will do the same work for alot cheaper. There is nothing wrong with staring at a computer all day, which seems to be where the real money is now, it’s the way it is these days. There will always be the people who don’t want to educate themselves and will settle for the shitty jobs and won’t strive to make their lives better. Better, as in NOT picking cabbage and mowing lawns for their entire life. We should teach our youth that and see how much quicker we can turn into Mexico. The bottom line is, no one would have a problem with immigrants at all (as that, as we all know is how we started out here, after decimating the Native Americans, though I look at that as survival of the fittest and another argument) if they just took to proper LEGAL channels to make it here.
Rae, if this country was to be left in the hands of cherokee, choctaw, and chippewa to run, what would we have other than casinos and be raking yards or planting pagonias in Mexico. As for your husband paying taxes, how much does he pay as oppose to how much you benefit from the American tax dollars? How does taxes from your husband’s minimum wage offset the deficit ran up by illegals in this country? Perhaps the “lazy american asses” feel that it is beneath their dignity to be paid such dirt wage for their work.
Why is it that everytime I go to a Liquor store to buy a drink, that it is the Hispanic man cashing in his worker’s comp check, when he has no handicap at all, and buy tequila? Why is it that I see Hispanic families purchase groceries with WIC coupons at the market, but have 24 pack of beer and load their groceries into gas guzzling customized Ford Expeditions? How many ladies giving birth at our hospitals have their own insurance?
As for the idiot that wrote this column (I meant beautiful Mr. Heritage), I suppose you keep the doors to your house and car open at all times for anyone to just walk in and take whatever they want, and that you would be perfectly fine to have your kids be booed by foreigners who holds this country in contempt, yet are dying to live here.

First off, while the show was held in Mexico, the audience in the theater was an international one as this events are by invitations only for the people in the business. Secondly, the booing stems from seeing a contestant reach the top elimination round after having just fallen on her butt!
Obviously the judging is fixed as every year Miss USA makes it to the top 5. The pageant, now co-owned by Trump and NBC, always cater to the advertisers. These advertisers know that their ethnocentric audience watching back home will turn away in droves if the US gets eliminitated and they need you watching up until that last commercial. How some of you people can’t see through this is unbelievable and on top of that you bring out your racist rage.
I hope the new immigrants can turn this hatred around and turn America into the great homogeneous nation its claims to be.

I think it would be nice to have more Mexicans in our country. Hard working, common sense people, and very kind as well. I think we should send a lot of white people back to where they came from. After all, Mexico is a lot closer to the US than England, Germany, and France. Furthermore, a lot of white people are becoming remarkable stupid and lazy. Also, a large part of what is now the US was actually Mexico just over a century ago. How many white families in Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, Colorado, and California are descendants of illegal immigrants?
Anyway, I don’t see what Mexican immigration has to do with this article at all. It was a well-written and amusing article. It’s just that many Americans’ overblown sense of exceptionalism prevents them from appreciating a good laugh. Wrap it in the American flag and it becomes sacred.

Well, you should certainly be able to understand why Mexican Americans hate the USA (or at least the symbolism of the USA. They can’t find decent jobs in their own country and are forced to cross our border in hopes of a better life. The Mexican government is corrupt, indifferent and controlled by the drug cartels. The environment and climate of Mexican are repugnant. When was the last time that Mexico, as a nation, did anything of historic significance?

It didn’t surprise me that Trump said what he did about immigration. It’s all political, he’s political, the all important vote comes next week on the latest immigration bill. The US government and its’ large corporations have a serious dilemma. They’ve figured out how to make money off illegals, and they need to make more. Bank of America and many others extend mortgage loans to illegals! How will they get their money if the illegals are sent home? Plus they have to figure out how to pay for this so-called war. What better way than with 20-30 million new citizens to exploit.

Illegal immigration is a problem in the US, mostly from Mexico whose own government is corrupt and useless. How much do we hear about an illegal immigration problem from Canada. NOTHING because there is none because the government over there takes care of its people. Illegal immigrant are uneducated and their neighbourhoods have the highest crime ratios and teen pregnancy. Illegal immigrants take away jobs made by the US ecomony and don’t even pay taxes for the roads and other public utilities they use. They break American laws and bypass the system by which legal immigrants who wait in line to come to US. All illegal immigrants should be punished and not allowed in to the US.

The final five is based on viewing audience that is why america got in. China and japan have huge audiences as well as america. I am from Barbados and our girl never wins we only have about 270 thousand people so it doesn’t make sense to waste a final spot on that many viewers. Contrary to what some may think, the immigrants you/re bashing do the work that Americans wont. True, there are may unemployed Americans who can’t find minimum wage jobs but those jobs are NOT the one the undocumented immigrants do. No American citizen nor immigrant with their papers in order will do work for less than minimum wage, 6 to 7 days a week, 12 or more hours a day without extra compensation. Those “jobs” are done by the immigrants you disparage. And guess what, corporate America and even Bush realizes they’re in a quandary; if they attempt to deport them, who will do the work?; if they “legalize” them, who will do the work? But hey all you neocons wanted immigration reform. LOL
All of the booing was due to all of the politics surrounding the illegal immigration policies (or lack there of policies.)
It was ridiculous and stupid for Mexico to boo Miss America. So what if she slipped and fell. I’m sure she was nervous and under even more pressure than the other contestants because of Mexico’s ignorance. All of these beauty pageants are pretty dumb anyways. Nobody, except the contestants take them seriously anyways; except maybe their families. As far as the illegal immigration topic goes; if you’re in this country illegally you shouldn’t be here; you’re committing a crime. Also, there are a lot of jobs American’s would do, but can’t get hired because they don’t speak Spanish. English should be the first language and not the second. Furthermore, there are many nice, hardworking illegals over here. Unfortunately they are abusing our welfare system, destroying our economy, because most of them are getting paid “under the table” and do not pay taxes, and destroying our health care system. The bottom line is if you’re going to be in this country, you need to be here legally, you need to contribute to our economy and you need to learn how to speak English! So the Mexicans weren’t pleased with the judges’ choices at Miss Universe? Too bad! We’re not pleased with the USA’s choice for president, but we accept the outcome. As far as the pageant, if Miss USA had not made the top 5, neither would Miss Mexico. Miss Tanzania and Miss Angola ranked ahead of her. But it’s probably too much to ask a Mexican to count to ten. Miss USA is half-white and half African American. There’s nothing racist about her selection as Miss Universe. In fact, this well-spoken, beautiful woman represents everything that’s right about the USA.
John, You are 100% correct. They booed Miss USA the year prior when it was held in Los Angeles, but were a tad more subdued considering where they were. You are correct. Miss Mexico wasn’t even that close to making the top 5. I think Mexico should be banned from the Miss Universe Pageant for 10 years, or until all of the illegal aliens are returned to Mexico. Whichever comes first.

In my profession, I deal with a lot of Mexicans who has lived here for years but couldn’t say anymore english word than “hello”.FYI falling or slipping which happens in reality doesn’t show stupidity.
