Okay, it is totally not necessary for the Britneys and Lindsays of this world to behaviour the way they have. It is not part of growing up nor is it a rite of passage. You will see some real characters in high school but you sure won’t see Lindsay. You see, most high school students can’t afford the “designer drugs” she indulged in or the expensive cars and clothes and the bail money. Plus most kids have parents who wouldn’t tolerate that behaviour. Lindsay has no one, nor does Britney. If they were lucky they might get a concerned, overworked guidance counseller but that’s it. Miley is just letting us know ahead of time that she’s going to take the same road and we should be prepared for it. By the time she’ll be as has-been anyway and no one will care.

It wasn’t normal even 30 or 40 years ago, but the world has descended since then like a lift with the cables cut. That crash at the bottom is at best very uncomfortable, and that is what we see them experiencing, one by one, or in whole groups. It’s pitiful that Miley and her peers don’t know that it’s not necessary to crash at all, and that they could live quite nicely without booze, drugs and totally demented promiscuity and dissipation. Some of us remember when the #1 hit song in 1952 was “How Much is that Doggie in the Window?” How was it possible that that was so? How is it possible that what we have now is so? Keep accelerating down, world, and let’s find out.
