Mick Jagger To Get His Own Sitcom?

There are two overriding sitcom trends on American TV at the moment; the high-concept, single camera, laughter track-free sitcom and dodgy sitcoms starring past-it English rockstars. Those two trends have just met head-on.

Mick Jagger - yes, doddery old skinny-like-a-teenage-girl Rolling Stones Mick Jagger - is apparently in negotiations to star in his own ABC sitcom. We'd imagine the Mick Jagger sitcom would be a bit like One Foot In The Grave, only with a lead character who is much older and more concerned with having it off with supermodels young enough to be his granddaughter. But what do we know?

Lately, traditional studio audience-based sitcoms have been jettisoned in favour of single-camera shows like Arrested Development and My Name Is Earl - which is basically Arrested Development with more cuddles. And everybody wants a piece of the action. Even Mick Jagger.

Mick Jagger wants everyone to know that there's more to him than playing at Super Bowls and annoying Noel Gallagher - he's also a deeply, deeply amusing old man. And, by God, that's what he wants to show the world in his new sitcom pilot.

The new, as yet untitled, sitcom would be about a group of blue collar workers who conspire to rob - you guessed it - Mick Jagger. The show was originally called I Want To Rob Jeff Goldblum, but Goldblum has now been cast out in favour of Mick. It's thought that Mick Jagger will only appear in a handful of scenes in the pilot, but he will return throughout the series if the sitcom is picked up by ABC.

Mick Jagger isn't the only fading rockstar to get his own sitcom. Legally un-rude singer Elton John is also set to star in an Elton John-themed sitcom all about how brilliant Elton John is and how you should all go out and buy an Elton John CD.

We're hoping that the Mick Jagger sitcom is scheduled in direct competition with the Elton John sitcom. Not because it would be interesting to see the way in which both singers go about promoting their shows, but because we could avoid them both at once and save ourselves a lot of hassle.
