It's been a while since you've heard Michael Jackson perform any music in public, apart from after he's been on the Jesus Juice a bit and hits the Irish karaoke bars to sing Chas & Dave tunes, or something. Possibly.
But Michael Jackson is serious about become a proper popstar again, and not just a crazy old hasbeen popstar who occasionally gets accused of molesting children. In fact, Michael Jackson is so determined to become the King Of Pop of old that he's preparing to show the world exactly what he was capable of in his prime – that's why at his appearance at the World Music Awards in London next week, Michael Jackson is going to treat the global audience of one billion to a rare performance. Not just any old performance, but Michael Jackson will sing Thriller, one of his most famous hits. Plus, now he's old and weird-looking, Michael Jackson won't need any of that spooky make-up.
Oh come on, like you didn't see that one coming.
Ever since that nutty dove woman marked the end of the Michael Jackson child molestation trial it's been a slippery slope back to normality for Michael Jackson. He moved to Bahrain but forgot to pay his Neverland staff, and then he was too busy dressing up as a pretty lady to remember to drain the giraffe blood from his zoo enclosures. Michael Jackson has lost lawyers and been sued by the mother of his children. It hasn't been pretty. But Michael Jackson has always had his music.
Well, sort of. Even though you couldn't hum the last Michael Jackson single if you had a knife to your throat, it's long been Michael Jackson's intention to reestablish himself as a proper pop star. After a seemingly infinite string of monstrous arse-ups – Michael Jackson's Hurricane Katrina single, Michael Jackson's funky Pope duet album – Michael Jackson has finally got his big comeback album underway. After a few hiccups with 50 Cent mixtapes and Bahrain record labels, it was announced last week that Michael Jackson was starting to record his album with Will.i.am from Black Eyed Peas.
And for the finishing touch to Michael Jackson's partial comeback, he's lined up something fairly special for his appearance at the World Music awards next week. Instead of just shuffling onstage in a facemask and squeaking "I love you all" like an insincere perspex-faced nobsack, Michael Jackson is going to perform Thriller, as Metro reports:
The singer will perform live in Britain for the first time in nine years at the World Music Awards next Wednesday. Jackson, 48, and his troupe of zombie dancers will be the star attraction at Earls Court Arena after he collects a Diamond Award, which recognises artists who have sold more than 100million albums. His costumes for the show are being designed by Roberto Cavalli, who visited the King of Pop on Monday for a fitting. Jackson has not performed live since he sang Earth Song at the 1996 Brit Awards, where his performance was mocked by Pulp singer Jarvis Cocker. Beyoncé Knowles, Mary J Blige and Katie Melua will also
perform.
Wow – imagine the pressure that Michael Jackson must be feeling at the moment, knowing that he not only has to make his live comeback singing one of his most famous songs in front of a televised audience of around a billion people, but he also has to somehow try and upstage Katie Melua?! Yeah, good luck with that one, Michael.
