Mercury Music Prize Betting Odds - Editors, The Back RoomThere's not too long before the Mercury Music Prize winner is announced, which is good because we certainly need to be told what music to like by a panel of smug, chin-stroking Newsnight Review tossers.

Whatever you might think of the Mercury Music Prize judging, you can't help but be impressed by the albums that they've chosen as the best albums of the last few years; Gomez, Roni Size, M People, that fat whiny bloke that looked like the porky lesbian from Sugar Rush - all of them entirely deserving of the Mercury Music Prize money and the title of the best album of the year. Ahem.

But who'll win the 2006 Mercury Music Prize? We're continuing our Mercury Music Prize betting odds rundown with a look at the Mercury Music Prize betting odds for The Back Room by Editors

Editors: The Back Room - Every year the Mercury Music Prize has a couple of generic indie band-shaped holes to fill, and that's where Editors come in. The Back Room proves that Editors know exactly which indie rock buttons to press - song titles like Bullets, Blood and Munich, moody faces, dark, serious clothes. In their heads, Editors probably imagine that they're glacier-cool purveyors of Very Important Music. However, in actuality, Editors sound a little bit like U2, and that's just plain unforgivable. Is it good? If you're just about to embark on your first year at uni, and you're scouring HMV for music that makes you look a little bit deep but is still accessibly tuneful, then yes. If you don't fall into that exact category, then no. Will it win the Mercury Music Prize? Doubtful - the generic indie bands are too much of an obvious choice for the Mercury Music Prize panel and, try as they might to escape that tag, that's exactly what Editors are. Current Mercury Music Prize betting odds - 18/1
