You remember Melanie Griffiths, don't you? Melanie Griffith of Working Girl fame? Melanie Griffiths of no good films in the last 16 years fame? Anyway, Melanie Griffiths is being sued by a man who makes dresses for a living.
Niklas J Palm is suing Melanie Griffith because she – and her daughters – wore dresses designed by him to The Golden Globes this year. Palm claims that Melanie Griffith hasn't paid the $25,000 bill for the dresses, and she also backed out of an agreement to mention his name while standing on the red carpet. In the world of dressmaking, this is an unforgivable crime – so Niklas J Palm has thrown a fruity little strop about it.
What was it about dresses at the Golden Globes this year? Firstly, Reese Witherspoon throws a barney after discovering that the 'vintage' frock she wore to the ceremony was one of Kirsten Dunst's cast-offs, and now Melanie Griffith is getting sued by a livid dress designer because she didn't say his name in any interviews.
Dressmaker Niklas J Palm is upset that Melanie Griffith forgot to mention his name while floating up and down the red carpet at the Golden Globes in one of his creations. Palm also claims that a $29,560 bill for the three dresses – one for Melanie and one each for daughters Dakota Johnson and Stella Banderas – is still unpaid. But it seems to be the lack of recognition that really smarts for Palm. In the lawsuit, he states that Melanie Griffith promised:
"that he will receive publicity that money could not buy, then
conveniently forgot his name when reporters on the red carpet
specifically asked who designed her beautiful gown taking credit for
the gown herself."
Now, you're probably wondering what sort of dress would a) cost that much money and b) would make one man kick up such a big stink. Luckily for you, hecklerspray has an especially-trained trained in-house team of crack frock analysts, and they have described the Golden Globes dress as "sort of a bit grey and quite long. We dunno, it's a dress. All dresses look the same. Now be quiet, we're watching Loose Women."
