Mel Gibson Being A Naughty Old Racist Again
Then buzz it up

Want to know the best way to spot a racist? They're the ones who begin their sentences with 'I'm not a racist, but…' before saying something incredibly racist.
Want proof? Just head on down to your local Wetherspoons/ Yates Wine Lodge/ general smalltown England chain pub - the place'll be just full of the prejudiced blighters!
One person who definitely isn't a racist, however, is filmstar-actor-type Mel Gibson, who - even though he said all that stuff about the Jews starting every war in history or something - claims that it was all a silly misunderstanding and that he deserves your forgiveness, like, immediately.
Oh, come on. Don't be so cynical. Go easy on the guy - we've all said stupid things while drunk, right? Why, at this year's Xmas office party, hecklerspray climbed onto a desk and loudly informed the room that the problem with travelling around Europe was bumping into all those bastard foreigners. Then we apologised the next morning and everything was alright again. Everything.
Still - it's not as if Mel Gibson has done anything else that could be seen in a potentially racist light, is it? Well - not quite. According to uppity Guatemalan officials, Mel's new film Apocalypto is apparently one bloody great two-hour racial slur:
"It's a case of Western civilisation imposing its view about other civilisations. It shows the Mayans as a barbarous, murderous people that can only be saved by the arrival of the Spanish."
Jeepers - even dead civilisations are getting indignant with poor old Mel. This follows similar comments by Ignacio Ochoa, director of the Nahual Foundation that promotes Mayan culture, who criticised the movie last month:
"Gibson replays… an offensive and racist notion that Maya people were brutal to one another long before the arrival of Europeans and thus they deserved, in fact, needed, rescue."
Those bloody Mayans, eh, Mel? They come over here, taking our jobs …

I dunno, I think Mel’s right. I went to Guatemala the other day. Attacked by three pumas, I was. And a local cut my head off, threw it down some stairs and pulled my heart out of my chest. Seems pretty reasonable I guess

The quote by Ignacio Ochoa (from a December 6 Reuters article) was

I was not at the scene when Mel had said alledged anti-semitic words. Was anyone out there who is reading this, at the pullover? and hear what was really said? I believe most, lf not all was contrived and done to harm Mr. Gibson if he was as polluted as Authorities said then I do not know how Mel could have remembered anything. Mel seemed bewildered during the press interview. And I do not wonder why. When he made the apologie I believe to cover all bases. If he was coherent during the stop his mind would have put priority on the stop and not trying hard to lose face with the public. Another interesting observation: why was this brought out into the spotlight before he went to court?why else but to defame him? Sensitive remarks of this nature should have been properly handled, kept under wraps and not publicized. Mel said nothing of the sort. Its because he is an Aussie isn’t it.
