The world of celebrity is cut throat. It demands perfection, it demands excellence, it demands intelligence… oh wait a sec… scratch all those.
Especially that last one. Education, at least a proper college education, has never been mandatory in the world of glitz and glitter. That's why we've been allowed to see the tremendous careers of Mr. Ed, Flipper, and Martin Sheen all soar like an agile eagle caught in an updraft.
Although Mr. Ed and Flipper were both clearly satisfied with their own mental mediocrity, Martin Sheen is not. That's why at age 66, he's starting on the four year road to a bachelor's degree.
Sitting in the fictional oval office and swimming in extremely boring drama isn't enough education for Martin Sheen. For that matter, neither was canoeing up a Vietnamese river to kill a sweaty fat man, or battling the blue-hued Captain Planet in the early 90s.
That's why the 66-year-old superstar actor has decided to turn his efforts to obtaining a scholastic degree. Martin Sheen is enrolling at the National University Of Ireland in hot pursuit of a bachelor's degree in entertainment news blogging, which is an extremely honourable course of study, and is basically a free ticket into heaven. Martin Sheen will actually be studying topics like philosophy, English literature, oceanography, and an as yet unconfirmed wally-ball. Martin Sheen said of his latest endeavour:
"I don't want this to be just a lark. I want to see if I can seriously commit to it."
Martin Sheen used the word 'lark'. He should totally test out of his English credits. In case that doesn't work out for him, here's a few pointers. First – Francis Bacon did not actually write Shakespeare, although many may want you to think otherwise. Secondly, Beowulf gets killed by someone's mother, which is a direct consequence of an unfortunate and unavoidable fate. Thirdly, if you ever run for student body office, calling your opponent's nipples "the size of dinner plates" and "an ugly plague on an otherwise normal-looking chest" in a speech-type setting will get you thrown from the race.
It's a shame too, we had some good ideas.
