Lost Goes Teeny-Weeny And Mobile

Say what you like about Lost - it remains the only TV show where you can watch a bunch of pretty people have important flashbacks on a beach.
But what about the people on Lost who aren’t so pretty? The ones who stay in the background while Locke stares at the sea for an hour remembering how the time that someone didn’t hold a lift open for him directly relates to the predicament he’s currently in? Well, we’re finally going to get to see their stories - in two-minute nuggets called Lost Video Diaries, made exclusively for mobile phones.
Depending on where you live in the world, you’re either in the
middle of the exciting second series of Lost (DVDs) or in the middle of the
slightly less exciting first series. But wherever you are, you have
helped everyone involved in the creation Lost become richer than they
ever thought possible. And, by God, those people want to get even
richer.
You can already download full-length episodes of Lost on iTunes, enabling you to run your iPod battery down even faster than usual while you watch
your favourite episode. And soon you’ll be able to have exclusive mini
Lost episodes beamed directly to your mobile phone.
Buena Vista Home
Entertainment, the home video division of Disney, is producing a series
of two-minute shortform Lost episodes called Lost Video Diaries with
the Verizon Wireless V Cast broadband service.
Lost Video Diaries will tell the stories of the non-principle cast
of Lost - you know, the ugly ones that don’t have any ideas on how to
help the handsome doctor or the one that used to be a hobbit; the ones
who carry a bucket around out-of-focus in the distance every week; or
maybe even the ones that died. Is there any need to find out about
these stories, though? Apparently yes, according to Lost
co-creator/executive
producer Damon Lindelof:
"Viewers always ask us, ‘What’s going on with the people in the
background? Don’t they have stories too?’ Well, the answer is yes. … And now we’ve got the perfect
format in which to tell those stories."
The
Lost Video Diaries episodes will be supervised by Lindelof and series
executive producer Carlton Cuse. The episodes will also be written by
seasoned Lost veterans Dawn Kelly and Matt Ragghianti.
It’s thought that the mobile Lost episodes, to be launched in
January, will air once each week alongside the TV version. And for
those of you with rubbish mobile phones that won’t let you watch Verizon video,
the episodes are also likely to be included on the season two DVD
box-set.
But will Lost Video Diaries be able to what Lost can’t, and actually answer some bloody questions? Don’t be daft.
