A few years ago, I made a Facebook status about how I was going to mix myself a drink, take an Ativan, and get a nice, long bath, which I then pointed out were probably Whitney Houston’s last words. Was the status in poor taste? Absolutely. Did I then, and still now, think it was hilarious? Of course.
As it turns out, not everyone shares my sense of humor (I’m SHOCKED, given that none of you EVER hate on me in the comments section), but, apparently Lorde just might, and people are pissed.
A few days ago, Lorde shared a picture of her luxurious bath tub on Instagram with the caption “And iii will always love you.”
People were quick to jump down Lorde’s throat about how this was in super poor taste given that Whitney Houston was found dead in her bath tub back in 2012.
Lorde quickly responded, stating:
I’m so sorry for offending anyone–I hadn’t even put this together. I was just excited to take a bath.
If it was most people, I would genuinely believe that they didn’t even make the connection and were legit just serenading Whitney Houston to their bath tub (side note: Lorde could’ve also been singing Dolly Parton to her tub since it was Dolly’s song first, but y’all are haters who say white people have no culture) because bath’s are lit.
However, Lorde seems like someone with a particularly dark sense of humor, so, much like Wendy Peffercorn, I like to think Lorde knew exactly what she was doing. And while it’s clearly a wildly unpopular opinion, I appreciate the reference.
People really need to chill the fuck out over some things. I mean, if I die somewhere moderately more interesting than a bed, I hope my friends and family will make crude jokes about it for all eternity, because laughing at death is the best way to deal with it. That being said, I hope I die at a Taco Bell when I’m like 102, because I think that would be a fun story and it would probably make the news and then all of North America could make amusing jokes about my passing which is really my life goal.
