Little Britain Only Funny To Pre-Schoolers

Little_britainhecklerspray has never really seen the appeal of Little Britain.

Call us a bunch of wizened old cynics, but it’s getting increasingly difficult with each passing day to see the humour in a man dressing up as a lady. And then saying "I’m a lady." In a silly high-pitched lady voice.

The sort of thing that only a four-year-old - or someone with the mental age thereof - would find amusing, right?

Right. And now it’s been scientifically proven. Kind of.

According to Little Britain (DVDs) research by middle-class rag The Radio Times:

The audience for the last series included 86,000 viewers aged between four and nine - despite the fact it was screened after the 9pm watershed. It was also watched by 280,000 10-15-year-olds.

And apparently Little Britain leading man and ever-grinding-rumour-mill David Walliams is delighted by the news:

"Little Britain is not designed for children, it’s not meant for them, but it’s great that they love it. When I was at school I was watching The Young Ones. I was probably about 12 and The Young Ones wasn’t meant for 12-year-olds, but there’s always that element in kids where they want to watch the naughty comedy that’s not for them."

The slight difference being - of course - that The Young Ones was genuinely innovative, mould-breaking cult comedy of the highest order, while Little Britain remains about as funny as snorting fibreglass through a Domestos-soaked tenner.

Let’s just hope Extras sweeps the British Comedy Awards instead, eh?
