Lady rapper Lil’ Kim and her assistant Monique Dopwel, have both been convicted of perjury and conspiracy; for lying about an incident outside Hot ’97, which erupted in gun fire between The Junior Mafia crew and Capone-N-Noreaga back in 2001.
The fashionista rapper, formerly a prostitute, and main squeeze of the late Biggie Smalls, could now face up to 20 years in prison.
Lil’ Kim had testified in court that she was not with her manager and a friend, during the incident, which became an apparent lie once security camera footage was released which showed her walking with the two men (one of whom actually opened the door for her on the way out of the radio station).
Once the two counts of “guilty” were announced, a huge sob broke out from Lil’ Kim’s court support.
Is the naughty Lil’ Kim becoming a scapegoat for a “seemingly out of control" type of music?
Will Lil’ Kim go down for a lighter sentence and then hope of getting parole after just a few years? Or will she be made to suffer an elongated sentence, all due to the fact that she was trying to protect her close pals?
Lil’ Kim had originally released this statement a few months ago: “I am completely innocent of the charges I have been accused of, and am very confident that my co-defendants and I will win this case in the courtroom. This case is a witch-hunt against the hip-hop industry.”
Unfortunately not, for Lil’ Kim who won a Grammy for her part in the hit single “Lady Marmalade”, which really placed her in the midst of the public eye.
Sentencing is due to take place on June 24th, to decide the fate of the troubled female artist.
