Digg this!

Leonardo DiCaprio Enron Movie Conspiracy Of Fools FilmIf you're making a film about something serious and important, but still want swarms of knicker-wetting girls to see it anyway, Leonardo DiCaprio is the first-choice go-to actor of choice these days – and now Leonardo DiCaprio is chasing Enron.

According to reports, Leonardo DiCaprio has signed on to star in a movie about the 2001 Enron scandal based on the Kurt Eichenwald book Conspiracy Of Fools. The Enron movie marks another inroad into Serious Movies Containing Messages for Leonardo DiCaprio, who would have constructed an impressive canon of important work over the last few years if only the film he'd signed on for directly before Conspiracy Of Fools wasn't entitled Mr Wumbly's Magical Rainbow Poo Bum Poo.

The thing about Leonardo DiCaprio, right, is that he cares about everything. Ever since he almost decided to quit acting a decade ago, all of Leonardo DiCaprio's movies have been made to highlight various social issues. In his Oscar-nominated turn in Blood Diamond, Leonardo DiCaprio raged against the brutal diamond trade – semi-adopting a local girl in the process – while his other projects have included documentaries about the environment and reality TV shows about eco-friendly houses. And next on Leonardo DiCaprio's big checklist of things to get stroppy about is corporate greed.

Leonardo DiCaprio has been attached to Conspiracy Of Fools, a movie about the 2001 Enron scandal – where an insanely powerful mega-corporation melted in on itself after years of systematic fraud, bribery and political persuasion were revealed. Sounds heavy-going? Don't worry – the script's going to be written by a man who does Adam Sandler movies, as The Guardian reports:

Studio Warner Brothers is finalising a deal for the rights to Conspiracy of Fools, a book by New York Times journalist Kurt Eichenwald, on which the film will be based. Tasked with adapting the book into a screenplay is Sheldon Turner, who previously penned The Longest Yard, the 2005 American football film starring Adam Sandler. "Kurt [Eichenwald] made the factual stuff read like a thriller, and it felt right to tell the story from the point of view of an outsider," Turner told Variety. "The goal was to take it away from feeling like a staid look at a corporation and turn it into a character study of how people react under adversity."

Plus there'll probably be a hilarious Rob Schneider cameo in there somewhere. After the success of Blood Diamond, Conspiracy Of Fools is another sign that Leonardo DiCaprio wants to confront all the big important issues head-on without a trace of fear. For example, his next movie is set to be about the murky underground world of people who sell hairdryers at bootfairs when they know full well that they don't work properly. Truly Leonardo DiCaprio, you will save us all.
