DrugfreeBBC daytime soap Doctors is to get a new recruit, and don’t you dare say it’s a slow news day.

Kym Marsh
(CDs ), once of singing scattergun Hear’say and an astoundingly short lived solo career, now wants to be an actress.

"I learned lots from my time in the theatre and it also gave me the acting bug” Kym told OK magazine.

"I’ve now signed up with an acting agent. Music is my first love and always will be. But I’d really love to do straight acting as well."

Doctors is getting a rep as the first port of call for anyone wanting to start a career in television. It’s dreadful, actually cringeworthly bad at times, but is at least squashed into a timeslot where most people have to throw a sicky to find it.

Kym gets her breakthrough role as a woman suspected of slipping date rape drugs to men and then robbing them. You see the role reversal that’s occuring? Can you see it, can you?

"It’s a great start." said Kym.

Indeed it is, Kym. Next stop passed over at the Soap Awards, last stop back to musical theatre. Those curtains won’t pull themselves after all.

I hope she does well. Kym Marsh was cool before she got hooked up with that sad pop group. And that sad soap star.
